Health insurance or medicaid... Spouse still overseas with visa being processed

HELP please

What have you done in relation to health insurance vs medicaid?

So I applied to the marketplace, who were confused as hubby is in Australia an making australian income. I am the USC in usa, with no income at present.

Then I applied for medicaid who say to count hubby's income as I have access to it (which makes sense).

Yet, my husband will NOT be including his australian income on his us tax return because he will only get a ssn etc once he arrives and will include income from the date he is required to lodge a return, not from the date of when ever. (Unless I am wrong here, however that is how most taxes work in a country. You lodge once you have legal status there)

So what do I do. Do I apply for the marketplace who has no idea of what to do with me, or Medicaid who says he has income? They keep asking about his tax return, which he is not yet required to lodge anyhow. And once he does become required to lodge it will only be part yeAr from when the requirement begins.

This is terribly frustrating as I know we are not the first husband and wife ever to be in this situation.

How do you file taxes this year? Married filing jointly or separately?

Since he has no ITIN or SSN I have filed the past three years returns as MFS and I have had no problem. The 2014 year will also be MFS. He is a nonresident alien.

For the current year (2015), as my income is likely to be much lower than his, we would probably file MFJ because he will be here working, and that will allow us to take advantage of tax credits and spread the income earned between us...

Well, lady from medicaid just called back. She called the government office and spoke to a supervisor, because my husband is a non resident, non tax filer I do not include him and am therefore eligible for Medicaid until our situation changes.

So if my income is too much or if he becomes a tax filer.

I believe you have 60 days from date of entry anyway, to apply for Medicaid or via the marketplace, as yours is a "life event".

Yea I have awhile, but I'm 3.5 months pregnant and already had one doctor appointment and paid out of pocket. Next appointment is scheduled at the end of March so I wanted to sort out medical coverage as soon as possible to ether be covered through Medicaid, or to have insurance so it counts what we pay towards a deductible.

Should receive my Medicaid card soon enough anyhow. As soon as the baby is born though, I won't have Medicaid anymore. Which is fair enough.
