Montreal Interview - How long to schedule?

Hi,

This summer I got married to my girlfriend who is a dual citizen (Canadian/American). We went to the consulate in Toronto and filled out all the paperwork and submitted the petition. We were sent the case # and a checklist of all documentation we had to obtain - we gathered all the documentation and send the checklist back (couriered it). So now we're waiting for the Montreal interview to be scheduled and nothing has happened. We sent the checklist back in mid-October 2006 and it is not mid-February 2007. I called the Visa office in Montreal back in December to make sure they got the checklist (they did on October 23rd) and to find out when we might hear back - the guy on the phone said it would 'probably' be January when we'd receive the letter with the interview date and the interview should be in February. We still haven't heard anything about the interview. Does anyone know how long this usually takes? We are left hanging with our lives kind of in limbo...My wife wants to move to the US for family reasons, my company wants to move me to the US for a promotion...but none of this can happen until we get the interview.

Also - what happens during the interview? I've read somewhere that there is a medical evaluation? Is the interview a long process? Once its done when do you get the Visa? When could we move to the US?

If anyone could shed some light on this whole situation I would be incredibly grateful!

Not sure what you are filing for because you have not filled out your timeline. But assuming that it is under K-3 or DCF, you can start by looking here:

First embassy listed is the one in Montreal, and you can click to get information on it, or to read others' accounts of what their interviews were like. You really should be getting your interview date any day now. Have you tried emailing instead of calling so that you have a written account of the info being given?

What you did was DCF. Since your spouse was a residnet of Canada, you could directly file and by doin gthat it saves a few steps and is usually a much faster process than what mostt couples go through whrn they do the cr-1 (married less than 2 yrs) or IR-1 (married 2 yrs or more) go through. BUT there has been a big change to DCF that just took place recently. I'm not up to date with that, and not sure how it will affect you.

Best to contact Mtl again via email and phone and see what is up!! Ensure you include ur case # when u email. I found email was best way to communicate with them, plus one has proof,lol

When one DCF's, which you did,its either a cr-1 or ir-1. I hope the new DCF rule changes do not affect you and Mtl gets back to you soonest.

Yes you wil have to do an immigration medical. DR's that do them are listed on the link that Mo gave you. Some DR's require the letter from Immigration stating you need 1, so be aware of that. And some DR's only accept Canadian cash (no credit crads, cheques) As wel lyou require a CANADA WIDE name check. donr by RCMP, city police or http://www.commissionaires.ca/ if in greater toronto area. All of this for the most part is contained in the packet you get back from immigration. Hopefully u hear back soon.
