You guys are speculating. You're erring on the side of the kid. Which is fine. I wouldn't err on the side of a teenager with a record against a cop's word ever. Regardless of the race of anyone involved. Kids are reckless and dumb, in all races.

kids are reckless and dumb and don't have the proper foresight. that's science. this has nothing to do with race, outside of the overall premise that statistically black youth have more interactions with law enforcement/justice system than white youth, if they've done anything wrong or not.

maybe it all comes down to experience. when i was a teen, every interaction i had with le was shady. cops were just big bullies. i will probably always err on the side of teenager with a record or without. back in my day, and in my parents day, kids could make mistakes and not get a record. now 45 million americans have records (for sure much higher now, http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/09/13/901423/-45-Million-Americans-Have-a-Criminal-Record-Help-Us-to-Raise-Awareness# ). what's the big deal?

I have always thought cops were best avoided. Blame it on my rebellious youth, when I thought cops were like parents with guns. Even the times I have dealt with them on a non-confrontational basis, even in a mutually supportive role, I was still "uncomfortable".

However, I don't understand this new "lone ranger" cop mentality. Most of the law enforcement members I observe would never chase a suspect into a building without back-up, sometimes ridiculous amounts of back-up. If we take the cop at his word, he allowed a situation to escalate beyond that which he could control without the use of deadly force. That is the reality, and he probably will not even receive a reprimand for being an idiot.

this. this. this.

although i do feel a bit better now, it seems the youth know what's up. thank goodness, i was starting to think everyone had lost their minds in thinking cops are a class above the rest of us, like it's their actual job description to be judge, jury, and executioner.

Judge Dredd baby, Judge Dredd. There are those in the U.S. who feel cops should be cops, judges and executioners.

Interesting. Teen lives don't matter.

great point

i think as a country we just keep moving the goal post, when is it ok for a cop to use leathal force?

when a cop fears for his life, right?

well gee, that isn't broad to the point of being problematic.

cop didn't fear for his life when he entered the apartment alone, so i sure hope he doesn't get to use that excuse.

I would go so far as to say that under the circumstances, Tony may have had the right to kill the cop.

Girl, you need to stop using common sense.

Cops need wear body cameras. Anyone that is involved in a questionable situation with the camera off, is fired. Wouldn't that make everyone happy?

seriously don't know why this isn't already the case. if i were a cop, i would demand a body camera and keep it on all the time.

but then i think of those instances where no knock raids have gone down on the wrong person/house and some toddler gets a limb or face blown off and everyone involved except for le are held responsible..come on guy, cops are human - they make mistakes too!

You would think they would have their sources right and some hard core evidence before they kick down someone's door and kill or permanently injure someone's kid and then says oops.

Moreover, one guy (his name is Guy actually) is being charged for murder when he shot an killed a narcotic officer. On the flipside, a texan shot an officer in a no knock raid and he was acquitted so there you go.

It's because local PDs are too busy buying tanks to afford poxy body cameras. <_<

Black lives don't matter on VJ.

But yet some of you never fail to marginalize white police officers and their right to live
