I can't read chinese calligraphy words just like I can't read English cursive writing.

I can read some of the words lah but no enough to form the names of the menu dishes.

And of course I can read chinese websites, chinese newspapers with no problems.

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I hope you can at least write your chinese name and your kids chinese names :)

Friday half-report, half-see man:

Awoke Many times during night, dreams or dewatering man.

Needed nap before awakening, need zzz man.

Probably get none this eve, no zzz and sigh man.

Probably have to shop for Mrs. T-B.'s birthday shindig, she man.

Many GSs to visit on Saturday, arise at o'dark-Many man.

Must also do Sunday laundry on Saturday, adjust for shindig man.

Must also lawn-mow, if ground out-dries, huff puff man.

Orders for pre-owned toilet seats flooding in too fast to react to, $i man.

Must focus on same, $i man.

Afternoon/evenin', Singapura- and other babes with +1 inventories!

Except, the writer IS a mainlander. he was a principal of a high school in Canton somewhere.

And that goes back to what I was saying......

Ya see? Even high school principals are dying to get dahell outta China, he came all the way over here to be a waiter.....well, now he's the manager.....

He probably earns more as a waiter in US than as school principal in China.

<shrugs> probably.

But one thing is certain. His son is getting better educated here. In that same article I posted, whilke US students are declining in China, China students are doubling yearly in the USA.

Like I said, even Xi Jing Ping's daughter goes to Harvard. B-)
