nola, that's a pretty decent machine for the price, especially the needle up/down, speed control and pedal-free sewing. great for people starting out and probably good for your daughter too if she were interested :)

at court yesterday - her attorney full of shenanigans and procedural errors ( again)

but I was smart - I asked the judge set up a meeting in the consult room, where i talked with her.

You know, I've been ok, since the 23 o January, but i've been an emotional wreck, all within this last hour.

I really not want this divorce.

you are better off without her, even if it doesn't feel like it right now. sending positive thoughts your way.

so, i have a job offer in singapore, with the same employer but different department. interview was yesterday and they want an answer from me "asap". they have offered to let me take a month off two or three times a year to travel to the US on top of my existing vacation time (amongst some other things like working from home whenever necessary, flex work hours etc). obviously that's still not going to be enough to maintain the residency requirements for my green card.

i'm prepared to give up my green card if i have to and then just go the IR1 route when the time comes to move back...but i am torn between:

a. voluntarily surrendering my green card at the US embassy in singapore; and

b. traveling back and forth a couple times a year and hoping CBP still lets me in. and if they do take my green card away well then i guess i'll just have to go the IR1 route.

if CBP deems that i've abandoned my PR and refuses entry, am i barred from using esta ever again? then again with a US citizen spouse, CBP might not even let me in on the VWP...so...

i guess another option is to get a re-entry permit. i'm not 100% sure how that will work if i don't have the 10 yr green card yet? apply for ROC from abroad?

naturalization though? i doubt i'll ever be pursuing US citizenship since singapore is unlikely to allow dual citizenship anytime in my lifetime. or am i misunderstanding that form?

ok i re-read the form and i'm not eligible for that. :( i haven't been in the US for a year since obtaining permanent residency and i'm not seeking a job with the US government, private sector or religious organization.

Yes, you're misunderstanding it.

This request is for you to work overseas, while preserving your residency.

And, many Singaporeans become naturalized, and don't tell Singapore that they are US citizens.

i have thought about that many times. i don't dare risking it since i work for the civil service and my employment is contingent on being a singapore citizen. if i had any other employer, i'd do it in a heartbeat. sigh.

does it not matter if you are working for an employer other than the three sectors listed? or do you mean i should try to find employment in one of those sectors to meet the requirement?

thanks steve, that's an immensely helpful link.

i'm wondering now if MUIS could be considered a religious organization? it's the islamic religious council for singapore, and its a statutory board so it might be doable to get a posting/transfer there from my current position, keeping the same salary and rank. they have some policy/outreach posts that might be interesting i suppose.

Ok, at first glance, to me, it is a governmental department.

However, it also offers religious guidance.

My initial impression is, it's working for the government of Singapore.

More importantly, who pays you?

Lastly, anything can be argued. This is no exception.

However, if you were to get denied, and you argue it yourself, you'd lose. If you get an attorney, you'd win.
