I am still waiting to hear from our embassy. I received an email from them two weeks ago responding to my email asking for the packet 3 electronically, but since then, nothing. The Kabul embassy site only has info for spousal visas (because only crazy people would get engaged with an Afghan! :content: ), so I need to rely on that info, and it says that packet 3 will be sent.

Although we still don't know when his finals will be, we are thinking we might need to reschedule his medical exams. I should be more patient because of this road block, but it's hard. If we had heard something by now, waiting would be easier. I'm not in bummer mood since the petition is there, but we are still at a standstill nonetheless.

I wanted to ask everyone: How did you get your interview scheduled? I know each embassy's procedures are different, but I am trying to get an idea on whether I should be taking any action at this point or just chill out. Did you guys schedule the interview using the embassy's site under non-immigrant visa? What instructions did you get in your packet 3? Was your interview scheduled by the embassy or did you self-select/self-schedule?

Thanks, all!

I had sent an email too asking for Packet 3 to be emailed to us, but my fiance is Mr. Impatient and he called them on Thursday. Within an hour we received the packet and the interview date in an email. He's braver than I am - I would have been scared to call! hahaha!

I did the same. Emailed and asked if they can send it electronically and they said they don't do that. Then I bombarded them with more emails, but we received the packet at his Malaysian address earlier this week. I spoke to someone on here who went through the Malaysian embassy just a few weeks ago and basically told me the process. After my fiance sends back packet 3, he should get packet 4 with information on the interview. So embassy schedules it, and not us.

According to NOA2, it expires in July. So if he doesn't get his interview by then, do we have to extend that? How does it work?

The petition won't expire while waiting at the embassy. The DoS either 'extends' the date or ignores it. If the petition is denied and sent back to USCIS, then it is allowed to expire. I wish I had a source, but I know I've read this somewhere... For example, AP doesn't result 'expiration' denials; they are just held until action is later decided.

Here is one discussion:

Uhm first we have to get a letter/email of the embassy. Then we have to order the documents and send them to the embassy. Then they tell u when u have to medical (in what time frame.) Filling out DS-160, scheduling the interview date

Yes, I have and it was pretty recent, making my tax transcripts a bit of a mess, but LUCKILY, my ex sent me my W2s for the past several years. The divorce was final in February 2015 but we had been separated since June 2014. It may come up in Issam's interview, but I included all the paperwork, so hopefully it'll just be a matter of, "Did you know that your fiancée was previously married?" or something like that.

I checked my grades yesterday and I passed all of my finals. This year started and still is great. I love this year so far ^^

Amhara,

from what I've read and also from asking another Indonesian beneficiary, the embassy will email my fiance, then ask him my email address, then send package 3 via email, then i will have to email them if i am ready with all the documents, then they are gonna email me back with interview date.

they just got my package on May 13th, so i am waiting for them to email my fiance next week, if they're slow i'll email them and ask since i am still in United States and have to schedule my flight to go back there :D
