Great question - can't wait to see some of the responses. :)

We are hoping she can be here for 4th of July weekend. 4th of July is our actual "anniversary" of first meeting in 2012. I was there in Makati last year to meet her for our 2nd anniversary.

My daughters spend weekends with their mother, so my weekends are free. The 4th falls on a Saturday this year, so it's a 3-day weekend here in the US, beginning with Friday as the Federal holiday. The tentative plan is to have her arrive that Thursday evening and then we will go from LAX straight to a 5-Star hotel and lock ourselves in the room until Sunday night. We have some catching up to do. ;)

We may leave for an hour or so on Saturday night and go down the street and watch the fireworks over the Back Bay in Newport Beach. Then back to our room.

My kids will come home on Sunday night. I won't be telling them she is arriving that weekend, so it will be a surprise for them. They have already met her on Skype, FaceTime, etc. and they talk frequently by phone. They get along great and look forward to being together. From that day forward, we will just begin our lives as a couple and a family. We are in Orange County, CA, so places like Disneyland are 15 minutes away and we like to go to Angel games, Laker games, etc.

If she arrives that weekend, our marriage deadline is end of September, but we will likely get married in August. My kids are out of school and my mom lives in Las Vegas, so we will go there for our wedding. Just a simple wedding at a chapel, but I have promised her she get the most fancy dress she wants. Can't wait to see her on that day. We will have been waiting over 3 years for it.

My fiance and I are in an interesting position (I feel like I say this a lot, so maybe it's not just us), in that I'll only be in North Carolina another year before a job offer I've accepted with Teach for America takes us to Milwaukee (it's very exciting because he lived there previously while visiting the US, and he loved the city, and I'm so happy I can have the job I want and he can have the city he wants for us to start our lives together). Unfortunately, since summer training starts in June 2016, we'll have limited time to get married. We'll most likely have a civil marraige ceremony just to file the forms as quickly as possible, but if he's here early enough, we'd love to plan a ceremony at our synagogue for friends/family in April, possibly around the anniversary of our first meeting in person (which will be two years by then). I'd honestly love to have some time in Raleigh before we move, because there's so many local things I've never done that would be so much fun for both of us--the State Fair, visiting parks and museums, classic restaurants and clubs everyone recommends... but timing will be everything, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up since TSC's processing times might not even allow us time for a ceremony in NC before we're both in Wisconsin.

Meeting with other half's family is the best thing to happen. Like him to my family when he met them. Living with me in the Philippines is the best time with him. He always took me to work and wait for me. I remembered when he fell asleep at my work cause of a long wait for me. LOL. We treasured every moment together, going out during my day off, movie marathon in the house, walking with our dog and cats, I missed those time with him. He also learned Tagalog words from our friends when he is the one watching my business when I'm at work. So this time, its my turned to meet his family and his 8 years old son which he always asked his dad when he will gonna meet me in person tho I always talk and saw them in Skype. Its still different to meet them in person. God is watching so I'm praying for everyone to have a good journey.

Great plans!

Gosh! The state fair! Yes, I forgot to add that to our list!

Jeez, I forgot that too. Orange County Fair is in July. For sure have to do that. She's only seen pictures of when I took the kids last year.

Can't think of a better way to welcome someone to America than a bacon wrapped, chocolate covered banana

My fiance and I keep kosher, so bacon's out of the questions (and I'm allergic to nuts, so no Snickers for me), but a chocolate covered banana is always good. I did a service trip to Belize in 2013 and had them for the first time. Now whenever I can have chocolate-banana anything, I get it.

And deep fried Oreos! Those are delicious and just melt in your mouth.

All this talk of food has gotten me thinking about the foods my fiance and I have shared when we were able to visit--one of our first meals together was at a Chinese retaurant, and then later at a sushi place, though I've truly come to love more authentic Mexican meals and I always love staying at home cooking with him. For most of us, I imagine being binational couples we're combining some likely different cultural backgrounds, and food is an important dimension of culture. What foods have you most loved trying with you fiance(e)s? What foods are you eager to try or share with them for the first time?
