I had such a bad day today. So, not only have we not heard from the embassy since August 23rd, we've had our last four emails receive no response. I haven't been wanting to focus on our situation in my emails to the embassy, but today I sent another email explaining how dire our situation is becoming.

Last night, I found three KBL cases that were in NIV - Ready status. After seeing no change in our case last night, I checked those cases, and they were ALL in AP status - about to be issued. They all changed to Ready after ours and they all had their interviews and cases received by NVC after us too. I get it, we needed to be in AP. In fact, our AP was relatively short - thankfully!! If I was marrying my cousin, our AP would probably have been short, but hey, necessary step. But how can "Ready" last so long? Another thread said that someone from the Manila embassy said they waited three weeks in Ready. We are a few days away from that length. The thing is, those three cases were changed to NIV after us. Did they all three need to change on the same day and leave us behind?

The last thing the embassy told us is that he should have already been contacted for him to pick up his passport, and if he hadn't been contacted, send another email. This was a response from our email sent August 16th. What the khell would you tell someone that then not say anything? C'mon! This will be our third week in Ready and other KBL cases get less than a week.

I'm really trying to keep it together. This process has been relatively easy for us, considering. However, with the TSC approving so few petitions this past week, this extended Ready status, and how slow Afghans special immigrant visas (for translators) are, I can't help but be frustrated. Things really don't need to go THIS slow - they really, really don't... How long do refugees need to wait for their visas? Oy vey!!

So sorry to hear. :(

Thank you. We finally got email responses - one today (NIV section) and one just now (IV section). They were both sent during US working hours, so it looks like the Kabul embassy is off this week for the holiday. Even though nothing will happen this week, I can at least put it out of my mind and relax a tad.

This site is so valuable! Seeing others in worse situations is not good, but it helps one to be grateful and maintain sanity! I (L) you VJ!
