Nope, not gonna do that, the flights are more expensive overall and the layovers in LAX suck. I will be flying with her, she won't be on her own. And immigration in Guam speaks Tagalog so it will be easy there for her. Going through LAX is actually a pain in the butt and doesn't save any time.

We will most likely be flying United MNL - Guam - Honolulu - Houston - Omaha it's the best, easiest, least expensive route and I should be able to easily upgrade us to business class. :D

I am a million miler on UA. Your routing is perfect to get the cheap fares to MNL on UA. Its a "Milk run" but it works. Forgot that the best part of it is the easy customs on Guam. LAX is horrible.

In doubt use Kayak.com to shop and then go directly and buy from the airline.

Anyone flying in August to Asia are going to pay. To Europe even more because everyone is on holiday. Wait and shop Tues-Thurs in Sept and you may get a bargain.

Most of the threads I have read here have learned the daily differences. Know the market and strike when you think its low. $500-700 one way fares are usually a great buy, so many posters above have shopped well.

Skip the B class unless you have the money to burn. Better to do 4 stops for 1.5K less money for 12 more hours of waiting. That is why god invented the Kindle.

K-1 Journey

2/27/2015: Sent I-129F to Black Hole in Texas:
3/13/2015 NOA1 Received by snail mail:
8/18 2015 ; NOA2 APPROVED. Perfect timing since Linh's current B1/B2 visa stay expires in 3 days and heads back to Vietnam
8/24/2015: NOA2 Shipped to Department of State (DOS) - National Visa Center (NVC)
9/1/2015: NVC Received NOA2 Package and have assigned a Case Number!
9/22/2015: Received PKT3... Finally..... Can now make appointment for Medical Examination
9/28/2015: Medical Exam - Took 3 days... Cho Ray is a mess. Vaccinations delayed until passing Interview because of shortage of vaccinations in Vietnam
10/7/2015: Interview at Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and APPROVED!!!!
10/22/2015 K1 Visa in hand. Son's K2 visa only valid for 6 months (W-T-F-?) Thought good for 1 year. Inquire at consulate and told visa good only as long as the medical which is 6 months K2 VISAS NOT GOOD FOR 1 YEAR AS ADVERTISED ON DOS WEBSITE!
10/29/2015 POE Chicago; Easiest pass through for Linh in her 4 previous entries.
11/2/2015: Not tuned in enough to Social Security not to pick "the first day of the month" to try to get signed up. Read VJ advice, it's spot on, we had a processor who knew K1. We were in the SAVE database in 3 days so it was easy after a 2 hour wait.
11/21/2015: MARRIED IN GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK

I have the miles to upgrade and as long as the planes don't have the old crappy B class livry, but the more I read the more I expect it to be considered domestic long haul not international. So we will probably sit in coach (maybe I'll foot for Premium Economy). But GUM Immigration is so easy, most people (K1's included) can make a 1 hour connection without hassle, I'm choosing the 2 hour connection just in case. :)

I have my seat at 1500 R/T and under 900 for the two one way seats. Fantastic prices for the end of July. :)

Well, we got AP. We were sort of expecting it, so it wasn't a total shock. He said it didn't seem like any of the applicants had their medical results there yet and everyone got AP, but the embassy kept their passports. They looked at our documentation and kept the financial support folder and his English translated national identity card. Only they didn't look at the photos he brought. We did have about 35 included in the petition though. He needs a machine readable passport anyways since Afghanistan is expected to require all readable passports by November of this year.

Our case updated to AP immediately and interestingly enough, even though we completed the DS-160 on May 6th, the Application ID on the NIV section of ceac.gov updated to "Ready" with a new case creation date of July 2nd. I wonder if that's when the cases were matched in the system? I don't know. The other applicants were told to wait a couple weeks because of the medical, so we will see if we have any activity in a month.

Signature coming soon...

Tell me if I have this straight....

Unless you fly PAL, there is a connection (at least one) between MNL and LAX. Go through customs and immigration. Then LAX to another connection and on to Omaha?

Now that's not a trip, that's a journey!!

Yes, that is right, PAL is the only one with no connecting flight from MNL to LAX.

That is the easiest and most convenient for us who are from Southern California. It is pretty easy to get out of LAX if it is your final destination. The hassle is when you have connecting flights to another State/Country.
