Washington (AFP) - Afghan security forces are suffering heavy casualties on the battlefield and large numbers of troops are resigning or deserting their units, a new report said Tuesday.

The US military also has overestimated the size of the Afghan police and army by a significant margin, the special inspector general for Afghanistan reconstruction, John Sopko, said in a report to Congress.

The Afghan army "continues to suffer serious combat losses," SIGAR wrote.

Between October 2013 and September 2014, more than 1,300 Afghan army troops were killed in action and 6,200 were wounded.

Great. Obama has once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

There never was any victory in Afghanistan. It was never to be had. W should have seen it and got us out of that place in about 2002. We would have saved countless lives and treasure and the result would have been one and the same. If you ever wondered what pizzing money out the window looked like, look no further than the prolonged deployment in Afghanistan. Every dollar spent there was a dollar wasted. Every soldier that fell, lost his or her life in vain. For nothing at all. From the very beginning. I've been saying that for over a decade now and it turns out that I've been right on this all along.
