Well, I was under the impression the namechecks are done with US FBI databases and don't really deal with the foreign country...but I haven't learned enough about them yet to be sure. I was mostly joking :) If I am right and it's only US databases it makes sense that more people from UK might get stuck if you think that a lot of names from the UK will probably be very similar to many US names found in the database versus a country with much different names than the typical Anglo name found in US databases.

the checks are run overseas as well.

No, they're not. FBI namecheck is exactly what it implies, FBI check their database. If namecheck relied on foriegn governments then people from "unfriendly" countries would never get greencards due to their countries unwillingness to provide background information to the US government.

O ok. Well, what I said still might make some sense though, maybe.:)

right. ok. whatever you say. that being said all this speculation is what makes people pissy and was just relaying the information that i have been given by different sources on the subject.

Well speculation is pretty much all you've got when you're getting no answers and need some way to waste the time :) Personally I just want to know how the heck the process works and get more answers on what is happening (I mean, it is my husbands future after all), I'm not expecting to speed up anything since it's out of my hands and all I can do is wait.

The FBI database contains information about people from all over the world.

An example, I commit a crime in Canada - enter the US - the custom agent enters my criminal information into their database and/or sends it to the in the FBI (anyway, it gets entered into the FBI database).

It'll never go away, even with a pardon in Canada and cleaned up Canadian record, US Customs will know about the crime.

That's how it works between Canada and the US - I can't comment on other countries, other than to say that the FBI does have access to CPIC (Canadian Police Information Center) and I am sure other international databases as well.
