Advice on postponing wedding?

Sorry if this is an inappropriate thing to post!

We were really naive when we applied for our K1 and thought we left enough of a buffer by applying at the end of September to have a wedding at the end of May. My fiance's parents and some family will be in the US then for something else, so the timing made sense. Sent out save the dates, booked venues, everything people typically do for weddings. Now that we have very, very, very little chance of him being in the US before May 23rd, we need to postpone the wedding.

Does anyone have any advice on how best to do this? We're okay with the financial loss (fairly minimal), but I am not sure on how to handle telling guests about the change of date. Etiquette sites say to send out a formal notification of a postponement, which is what I think we should do. Anyone have ideas on wording? I want to include something about the visa issue. Is "Kxxx Xxxx and Ixxxxx Xxxxx have decided to postponed their wedding due to visa issues. A rescheduled date to follow" too tacky? Ideas on where to purchase the announcement?

Has anyone else gone through this? I feel like my wedding dress is taunting me in my closet!

Thanks!

I would include a paragraph about the slowdown in regular immigration processing timelines due to DACA renewals, instead of just a label of 'visa issues'.

Yes, an entire paragraph.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Tacky. Sorry.

An announcement on nice card stating that the wedding is postponed to visa issues is appropriate. Something like, "Mary Louise Jones and David John Smith regret to announce the postponement of their wedding, which was scheduled to be celebrated on the twenty-third of May 2015 due to delays in the processing of David's visa. A rescheduled date will follow."

Or you can make it more informal. I found this online and while it's a tad cutesy, I kind of like the idea of it.

“Though we itch to get hitched

we encountered a glitch

We'll replan and replot

So we can tie the knot.

We have no date as yet

But when it is set

You’ll be the first to know

Now, on with the show!

(please un-save the date)"

There are any number of places to order invitations online, though friends of mine recently did theirs through minted.com and the result was lovely. Sorry you're in this pickle!

Thank you so, so much. You just made me feel a lot better about doing this. It's an awkward thing, and I needed a bit of a gut check! We were going to do our invites through minted, so I guess our postponements will have to do for now...

Thank you both again
