I and my husband both took off work since he wanted to be there for me at oath ceremony. I was waiting to check in for almost 2 hours. Finally, it was my turn. The woman asked me do I have tickets or else, I told her the truth I got a speeding tickets 3 weeks ago and my lawyer took care of it(since I didn't wanna my car insurance increases...) she then told me she can't let me be at ceremony due to the ticket..I was so shock! She took away my I-797 form and said she will mail me something and I have to mail her back stuff she required. She said if I just paid the ticket won't be a problem but my lawyer made a deal with the court so it will put me 3 months probation period. What is she talking about!? I will have to wait 3 extra month to go to oath ceremony or even worse cancel my approved N400? She took my paper so I don't know my I-797 number to check my status on USCIS website. Help me if you know any info or had similar ssituation.it was a terrible day..

Sorry for your bad experience, but this is not an unusual experience. They will ask you to send the court disposition papers showing that the matter is settled. You will need to respond within one month of the date of the request for evidence that you get.

If you send the RFE response, they will schedule you for another ceremony in a few weeks to a few months.

If you can't reply with a month, make an Infopass appointment and go speak to them to explain why.

Did she not tell you to send stuff in?

If not, I would expect you to get a form in the mail within a couple of weeks.

Do you know when I will receive the mail from her. In 3 months or shorter ?Thanks.

Penguin is right.

The officer will not wait to send in the RFE... it's just a matter of when you will have the final court documents. If you had paid a fine, you'd have a final disposition that you could send in today, but I'm not sure what sort of paper you got from the court.

They will send you a letter soon, unless the officer verbally asked you to send in the information... I think you said she told you to wait for a letter.

You could also make an infopass appointment and hand deliver the paperwork; I would feel a little better about that.

legal status in limbo at the moment,

so uscis lady not have clear path for you.

talk with your attorney today, ask him what your status is with the stuff he's attempting, noting the difference between:

1. yesterday.

2. date he filed with court.

3. today

4. tomorrow

5. date 'thing' awarded/granted.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Good luck, OP. A stupid, ridiculous annoyance for you based on a virtual non-event (the ticket), but just really poor timing. For what it's worth, I mentioned this thread to my wife and used it as an example of why I want this process over with, so hopefully both her and I can watch our speed in the meantime. I still have no doubt you'll be a citizen before me, and I plan on being one pretty soon :luv:

Good luck!

This exact same thing happened at my oath ceremony (not to me, I hasten to add). They turned a guy away because he'd gotten a ticket a few days prior to the ceremony, and was told he'd have to wait until the next ceremony. There are only four ceremonies a year in Southern Illinois - you do the math.

Beyond annoying.

...I am just gonna wait for her send me a letter..I guess she needs proof that I paid the ticket or any court disposition(paid ticket)..damn the ticket is only $80 bucks. If I knew this would happen, I would just pay the freaking ticket! Thanks for all info...I am hoping to be at oath ceremony soon before June...ugh...:(
