So, this may seem like a silly question but I am a bit confused. When making the statement certifying that the translation is accurate, I am having trouble for how to word the one for the Koseki.

The statement I have used thus far goes as follows:

I NAME, certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and Japanese languages, and that the attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled TITLE.

The problem is that the Koseki doesn’t actually have a title on it that says “Family Register” on the top in big letters. On the translation, it was typed to just say (Translation of Family Register) but the official document doesn’t actually have a title. So for those of you who have already submitted the IV Packet, how did you word the translation certification sheet for the Koseki?

We kind of went overkill on the translations. Had: family register (extract), Extract of household register, certificate of acceptance of marriage, divorce certificate, divorce report.

Only Japanese document sent over was the koseki touhon lol. Still approved in 11 days.

You are talking about for the I-130 though, right? We already sent our I-130 packet.

My question is for the Koseki for the NVC phase. When you sent it, did you send a translation as well? If so, on the certificate signed by the translator, what did you say the document was entitled as? Because, at least on our Koseki, there is no actual large title at the top that would translate directly to “Family Register”.

Do you think it would be OK to phrase it like:

I NAME, certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and Japanese languages, and that the attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached (Family Register).

So a little update!

NOA2 approval was 04/23/14 and our package left NVC 05/12/14 heading to Tokyo.

My first packet to USCIS was received 04/12/14, so it took one month to reach this stage!

USCIS Got approved my 1-130 today May 13. 2014. heading to NVC.

My wife had her CR1 interview on June 23rd. It says we need to bring a Letterpack for them to send the passport back to her. In general how fast do people get the passport back?

I Got my Son's NOA 2 Hard Copy yesterday by mail , but mine is not . but Why ?.. when I received the NOA1 by mail in the same day last 2 weeks ago I got both 2 mails . hmmmn. what happen?

Has anyone who sent a certified copy of your konin todoke (marriage certificate) ever had trouble with NVC? I have been reading a lot about people getting checklists lately even after sending certified copies of their marriage certificates (from other countries) I cannot find the original and used a certified copy for my I-130 which was approved, but it seems like NVC is being more strict.

Are you talking about what you sent to USCIS for the I-130? I had no problem with my certified copy and translation being sent to them, but I have just heard stories about other people who also had no problem at USCIS but are now getting checklisted by NVC for sending the exact same thing.

I have a couple questions about required documents for the CR-1 visa.

Right now my spouse and I are at the NVC stage(one agonizing year of this, and counting) and I just wanted to make sure that I have the documents straight that we are supposed to send in the IV package.

(We got an RFE from USCIS for sending in the Konin Todoke, and not the Koseki Shohon, which was confusing and has made me super paranoid since.)

It seems like Japan does not have birth certificates like America, so we are planning on sending the Koseki Tohon and Koseki Shohon to the NVC for the IV package to suffice as the birth certificate and marriage certificate. Are these the correct documents? There is scant information about what the Japanese words and equivalent documents are, so I really want to make sure we have the right ones.

What did everyone else send in? Should we(even though it was rejected by the USCIS) still submit the Konin Todoke?

Also, they are asking for original copies, but what, EXACTLY, do they want? As long as the docs have a hanko stamp on them, does that mean they are originals?
