Well, I woke up to some good news! As I said in my previous post, the embassy said they hadn't received our DS-230 and couldn't schedule our interview. So on Monday, I had Chiaki mail the DS230 and the attachments to the embassy, and was planning to try next Monday (giving them some buffer time) to re-schedule the interview for July.

But, yesterday, two days after sending the DS-230 to Tokyo, Chiaki got an e-mail basically saying "Thanks for your DS-230 and attachments, we have gone ahead and scheduled your interview for June 22nd". So they had some knowledge of the goings-on with our case and followed up by giving us our original scheduled day! Hurray!

Now I just have to hurry and send Chiaki all the forms she needs from my side!

Yay! I'm so happy for you two!

Now we all have interviews on June 22nd!

I hope we will all be able to get out of there with smiles.

Good luck to everyone!!

Yup, her interview is on Mon 6/8, but will actually be Sun here so will find out soon. Been having hard time sleeping lately with worry, but everything should go fine. It is just all this waiting that has been killing me.

I will ask her what she wears, but I really don't think it makes that much of a difference as long as your relationship is real. That is what they really want to know. And since Bronson will be there, I don't think you should have a problem. Best wishes to you and klester and Johnny & Yumi, who also have their interviews on the 22nd. I guess you all can meet there and have a few drinks after. Have one for me too. かんぱい!!!

Thanks!

I've been really nervous about it too. More about my past in Hawaii than anything though. Cause when i went through all my old passports, it seems I've been in and out of Hawaii 14 times! Crazy...

You two will be fine. Waiting is painful, but it sure is worth it in the end.

Thanks again for all your help and support!

Hey,

No problem. Hopefully it was of some help. Just make sure you pass on what you learn too. But actually, I wouldn't worry about coming to Hawaii so many times. I think that is even better to show that you and your fiance really met and established a relationship, if the times jive. But don't worry, my wife has been in the US and all around the world, so we'll see what happens come Monday (your time).

Yes, the waiting is painful, but it is almost over. Remember, whatever is worth it never comes easy.

Anyway, Good Luck on the interview and don't worry, I'm sure will do fine.

Hi everybody. I am also a Japan filer.

Actually... this is my second time. My first husband, also from Japan, turned out to be a sociopathic, violent, abusive crazy-person and conveniently (for him) managed to keep it hidden for the most part until we arrived in America with his green card in hand, far, far away from where my parents or anybody else I know lived. Four years later and I've finally managed to get out of the marriage without getting killed in the process and get him in jail, where he belongs, but if anybody here has tried to report anybody for immigration fraud or the like than they probably know how successful I've been at getting him deported since he has no right to be here... nada.

My fiance now is also Japanese. He started as my best friend, but we got along so well that we started dating and became really serious. We were living together and he supported me through this whole messy divorce thing until he lost his job, and his visa, due to the economy. Unfortunately, though we *were* planning on getting married, I was still going through the messy divorce (and I know you can all imagine how long it takes one to go through a messy divorce with somebody you have a restraining order against and who speaks ALMOST NO ENGLISH) and it was taking longer than usual, so I could not marry him before he had to leave the country.

So here we go again. I filed for a I-129 F and received my NOA-1 on November 25, 2008. My visa is past standard processing time and I have had no updates. I called and they REFUSE to put a service order in for my visa or give me an update, they said that I just have to wait. I am pretty sure that they are just sitting on my visa because this is the second time that I filed for an I-129 and they're suspicious, but they have absolutely no grounds on which to deny my visa because my relationship is REAL and I have TONS OF PROOF, so they're hoping that if they make me long enough, I'll just give up. I'm pretty upset at this point, four years of living in constant fear of a person who passed through immigration with NO PROBLEM and now they're objecting to the person who basically saved my life? I can't believe it.

Well... enough with the ranting, I guess. Anyway, since I've been through the whole immigration process before and I'm making my second lap, I guess I can probably help if anyone has any questions. I think that in relation to what other people say Embassies are like in other countries, Japan is pretty easy. Our spousal interview the first time for the I-120 lasted all of three minutes.

We just wore normal clothes. Everyone else there was in normal clothes, tee shirts and jeans when I went. Please tell me if things have changed, I'll tell Ken to wear something nice. If we ever get to that stage...

~~

Akiko - Hi again, thanks for your advice. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who had to wait longer than the six months. Not that I'm glad that you had to wait or anything... you know what I mean :) I'm glad I'm not alone.

Hey Laura,

Sorry to hear all that you went through. I guess you never can tell, especially with these long distance relationships. I've read some real sad stories here on VJ, but I guess it can happen anywhere, even if both are from US. I'm also on second marriage (16 years in first). She turned into a real "B" during the divorce process, but I think her lawyer helped her at that too. But now I can see what a money hungry person she was. But while I was going through the divorce, a friend asked me..."Do you know why divorce costs so much?"......."Because it is worth it!!!" lol. :jest:

Anyway, I hope things work out for you this time. Hope you paperwork starts to pick up. It is also true that anything "worth it" is something worth waiting for. Good Luck and best wishes. (L)

Hi Japan filers,

I’m residing in the States and I’ve filed a CR-1 for my Japanese wife since 12/2008 and have gotten to the stage of the DS-230. The NVC now handles everything prior to applicants having an interview with the Embassy in the applicants’ home country.

The NVC requires police records from every country she has lived in, which is fine, but in making a request to the Hong Kong police for a Police certificate (she lived there for two years) they require her to send a “a full set of the applicant (my wife) fingerprints taken and certified by a recognized and official police or law enforcement agency where the applicant currently resides”

My wife lives in Tokyo and I am wondering where she can go to have fingerprints taken and certified by official police or law enforcement agency

As a DS-230 requirement she has to obtain a Japan Police certificate from the Metropolitan or Prefectural police headquarters in Tokyo, but I’m not sure that they will provide a second set of fingerprints that she can submit to the Hong Kong police.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation or can provide some direction?

vny - Thanks for your regards, this kind of thing happens all the time and it's really a shame. I'm not that upset about it, though, it allowed me to meet the person who was really "the one" and now I know EXACTLY what to look for when weeding out crazy people. I just hope that they would process my case. Luckily, I live in California, whose senators and representatives are almost 100% open to immigration, so I'm going to ask their help on Monday. I know they would have to help no matter what, but I figure it's going to be more effective from somebody who actually wants people to immigrate as opposed to somebody more conservative begrudgingly helping my case.

Genatic - I'm pretty sure that they don't just give out police records in Japan without a documented reason. They requested documentation from us when I got them the first time, and my fiance said that they're not just going to give them to him without a reason when I asked him to get them in preperation for our as-of-yet not scheduled interview. Perhaps contact the US embassy and ask them to request another police record from them on your wife's behalf, or have her print out and bring with her the document that states that she needs it to get the records from Hong Kong. Perhaps even telling them the story will be enough, I'm not really sure.

Anybody else in this situation?

Laura - Sorry to hear what you had to go through. But I bet you'll be much happier once you get done with the k-1. And thanks for the advice on what to wear. I've been to the embassy for my parent's employment visa interview... but that was years ago and everything is a bit blurry. I really hope you hear something from them soon!

vny - Thanks again. Let me know how your wife's interview goes.

Genartic1 - Hey welcome to visajourney. I live in Kanagawa, very close to Tokyo but I had to get my police certificate at the headquarters in Kanagawa. In Tokyo, I think where your wife needs to go is in Chiyoda-ku (2-1-1 Kasumigaseki, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo). Your wife needs to take her passport, family register, resident certificate, and a document to prove what the police certificate is for. Phone number is 03-3581-4321 Ext. 58114/58115 if you need more info. I'm not sure if they will forward fingerprints to Hong Kong but she may want to ask when she goes to get her fingerprints at the police. Best wishes to you.
