In average how long does it take from receiving the case from NVC to actually having the interview or getting the visa in Tokyo? anyone who has gone through please reply.

thanks

It took about a month for us. But it has been shown to vary. You can look at peoples timelines to get an idea also I have a thread for Dec. 2007 I-130 filers that might give you some idea as well. Take a look here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=2335112 Thats my latest updated post. Most people don't know when the embassy actually got their case (I sure couldn't find out) but going from NVC Complete to Interview Date for us was about a month.

Hope this helps,

So where are you in the process neighbor?

:time:

Using current shortcuts (see the LingChe guide) the current record for NVC is 21 days.

As noted, the average is right around a month.

If you wait for NVC to walk you through it, you could be there for 3 to 6 months.

That's the Alien Registration Certificate that you need to get from the municipal hall where you resides. It shown all the informations from your first entry- re-entry to Japan, places you lived etc. You need to show your Alien Registration card and passport to get this certificate.

Hey, I was hoping someone can straighten something out for me:

I'm married, in the US, and trying to get my wife in on a CR-1 visa. It's at the NVC now, and my wife is waiting in Japan.

In various threads on this forum, people seem to suggest that the NVC schedules interviews, and that the interviews "book up" for a given month and are then postponed to the following month. But I was under the impression that once NVC is finished with your petition, they send it off to the embassy in Tokyo and the embassy schedules the interview date. I see seemingly conflicting information in people's timelines, as well.

The basic question is: If you are doing a CR-1 visa which will culminate in an interview in Tokyo, who schedules the interview? NVC in Portsmouth, NH, or the embassy in Tokyo?

Cheers

It's kind of tricky...you use the above mentioned links for everything except an H visa or a CR-1....but you CAN use it to request an appointment change, after NVC sets the appointment. In short, for CR-1, NVC sets the appointment based on days available from the Embassy. So they both have a hand in it.

You DO NOT need to use this form to request an immigrant visa appointment if you are applying for an employment or family-based preference visa based on a petition filed in the United States.

After the Embassy receives your case from the National Visa Center, the Embassy will schedule an appointment on the monthly visa allotment basis. You will be informed of the date and time of your interview.

You may use the form below to request a change in your appointment date. Please note, however, that there is no reason to expect that a visa allocation will be available for you if your application is not processed to conclusion during the month of the originally scheduled visa interview.

By applying for a K-3, and having the K-3 pass through NVC, and go to the Embassy, we were able to set an earlier interview date on our own,

by anticipating the case complete from NVC. See LingChe Guide for more info.

Hi Uncle_Wally,

The NVC schedules the appointment for you and will send you your interview date in a letter. If you need to change that date (push it back for some reason) you would have to contact the embassy to do so. I am not sure if you will get pushed back a month because of it being "booked up" but I have heard it before. It didn't happen to us even though NVC said it was very likely. I'm not sure if it affected the outcome or not but I did go there for the interview. There was a lot of waiting but they didn't really ask any questions. If you want more info you can read the entry on my timeline or send me a note.

I hope you get done at the NVC soon and can get your interview date and all goes smoothly! :)
