Congratulations!

Thank you TaKane!

I repatriated back in February of this year and felt like I made the worst mistake ever. COVID was just becoming a reality in the US and I was still in a hotel while the fam was back in Japan. Found a home and then everything stopped! USCIS/NVC/embassies. Quite the emotional rollercoaster!

Tried to secure airline tickets for the weekend but the non-stop flight from NRT to BOS was sold out. The next available wasn't until next Wednesday and that one looks to be filling up fast.

Your interview is later this week?

Some updates for us, we sent back the birth cert and translation about 2 weeks ago and recieved a Notice if deficiency for the i693 so we're moving along. It said not to send anything until we get an interview date. Which is good news I think. Should be any day now she gets her SSN and can start school.

Anyone know if we can use the medical evaluation we got for her abandoned K1 or do we need a new one? I read somewhere we can use that and get the required vaccinations from her doctor and a visit to a civil surgeon

Hi there!  We just got DQ'd today.  IR-1 No expedite.

Anyone have any idea how long it will take to get an interview scheduled?  I saw the embassy is finally just resuming routine visa services this week or so....

Must be in reference to public charge. My wife wasn't asked about insurance but I did send her photos of our insurance cards just in case. Other than that, nothing we submitted indicated medical coverage.

If you have insurance cards with her name on it or a letter from your employer saying that family is covered that may be sufficient.

We were DQ'd on 28 May but didn't get interviewed until 13 Aug. Of course, the delay was due to the embassy remaining mostly closed because of COVID-19. I think they were only handling emergencies and we didn't fall into the category of emergency. Currently I would imagine there is a backlog of people waiting on interviews and the embassy seems to be taking a phased approach to their reopening. It might take time. Definitely use this time to ensure your documents are in order and research other experiences online. The constant that I am noticing is that there is no constant. You may see a list of required documents but be sure that have everything else no matter how unrelated it may appear to be. The consulate officer has overall approval authority.

They were asking proof of insurance for when we move back as we are both in-country now. Sigh.

That can be difficult. While I was in Japan my coverage was specifically for employees on international assignment. We couldn't establish our new coverage until after I had formally transitioned to the domestic part of my company. A few weeks after setting in is when I received our new coverage cards. Perhaps if you employer has a handbook that outlines coverage options. Maybe at least something that can demonstrate the insurance will be available once you relocate?
