Wife just got a call from the embassy. Said they were cleaning tomorrow (Thursday). They rescheduled her for Friday. Said she would get an email tomorrow. Really sketchy call though.

Must be some kind of disinfection. We were told we may have to be rescheduled to next week or so.....kind of weird...and like you said the call was kind of sketchy.

The caller asked my wife if we already had travel tickets but my wife explained that we were approved for expedite. So the caller said she will get her in on Friday. Said she would send an updated email with interview date and time tomorrow. Said cleaning was taking place on Thursday. Caller wouldn't say her name. Call came in around 8pm JST. I haven't seen or heard anything from the embassy. Not very professional if you ask me.

Seems very unorganized calling people the night before the appointment next day.

At least for you guys, the bright side is you will be interviewing Friday 👍 good luck. Keep us posted.

Extremely unorganized and far from my experiences with Japanese business culture.

We'll know more Thursday. Once we get confirmation from the embassy I will post up on VJ.

Assuming something happened to cause the sudden cancellation. Perhaps a case of Corona? I would think cleaning was more of a weekend task.

Quick heads up. Wife was rejected under Section 221 (g) for noncompliance with the INA's requirements:

"PCS orders indicating transfer to US or letter from company confirming position in JPN"

Embassy kept my wife's passport and said once I sent in a company letter indication transition back to the US she would be approved.

I was in Japan under SOFA on a Letter of Authorization (LOA) as a MDA government contractor. We don't receive PCS orders. So, I sent the embassy my most recent LOA (confirming position in Japan) and a copy of my signed offer letter (confirming my transition to the US) for my current position. Apparently another lady there was having a similar problem.

If your spouse has an upcoming interview please be sure to include any documents you have indicating either a transition to the US or employment in Japan. Just in case.

Wife’s visa was APPROVED! There were about 10 appointments today in Tokyo. She said she had I nice experience at the embassy and an easygoing interview. I’ll update later on her whole process when she gets back from Tokyo.

I am sorry to hear about situation, but it seems it is fixable by providing documents per their request. Your wife's visa should be approved soon.

Thanks for the heads-up though. Very helpful. We will prepare proper document just in case.

Minor update. Immediately after the interview the CEAC visa status showed us as "refused" but later last night after I sent the requested documents our status had changed to "adminstrative processing".

No immediate response from the embassy. Only the change in status.
