Sorry for the delay VJers.

Had my interview at 8am on Tuesday in Seattle - finally. :-)

I was the second person called in after I arrived in the waiting room. The interview lasted about 10 or 15 minutes. :-)

Questions - I'm sure about all but one:

When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?

We elect a President for how many years?

What is the name of the Speaker of the House?

Who lived in America before the Europeans arrived?

Name one of the 2 longest rivers in the US?

What do we call the first 10 amendments to the constitution? (this is the one I'm not positive about)

The reading portion was a 4 or 5 word question which completely escapes me now. Could have been "When do we celebrate Independence Day?" But might not have been.

The writing portion was "Independence Day is in July."

I was asked if I wanted to do the oath ceremony same day and when I said "yes", was told to be back for 1:15. Luckily, I had not checked out of my hotel, so I went back there to spend the next few hours!

Oath ceremony lasted about an hour and a half with 83 new citizens from 53 countries. I didn't think I'd be as emotional as I was. I am now a US Citizen!!

There was a representative there handing out voter registrations, so I filled one out. But when she said it wouldn't be in effect for this election I opted to take it with me, because I knew that the deadline here for in person registration was not until 10/26.

Tuesday morning, on my way to work, I stopped and registered to vote and applied for my passport. Both places were in the same building and it took me less than 25 minutes to do them total. I think it really helped having all the paperwork filled out and ready before I got there. It was really hard to let go of that Certificate of Naturalization I had just received, but I needed the passport and it's the only way to get one.

The paperwork we received said to wait 10 days before going to Social Security, so I'll do that after I get my certificate returned from the passport office.

This ends my Visa Journey. :-)

Oops I messed up. This week I cannot keep track of what day it is! I did the passport app and voter registrations on Wednesday, the next day! And if it matters, I paid the extra for expedited processing and overnight shipping so I might be able to get to my granddaughters birthday in November.

Hello folks!

My N-400 application was received on March-19-2015 and then did my bio-metrics on April- 10 and I didn't receive the letter of Interview yet!!!! Its been more than 7 months since I did my fingerprinting and NOTHING yet, its very frustrating and I really do not what to do? I did an info pass last week and they told me my application still processing at the national benefits center! Anyone here from Portland- Oregon that applied recently? I have no criminal record or any problems at all! All I do is working and school :/

If you are absolutely confident that you have no security issues then my advise to you is to be proactiv, post everywhere, blog, share your story, explain how this delay affects your life and, most importantly, make one final update when you get your Citizenship.

Under Federal laws and regulations you can take your case to Court in two instances:

1. If 120 days have passed after your interview and no decision have been made

2. If time it took USCIS to take any action in your case is "unreasonable" by definition of the Courts.

Unfortunately, most courts ruled that if it takes USCIS anywhere under 2 years to take any action in your case, then the timeframe is still "reasonable".

So, you may not have legal grounds to sue USCIS, at least not at this time.

I personally believe only those who ultimately get denied the benefit in the end (and denied for reasons that stand scrutiny of Federal Court) can justifiably be held up in the process. But even then, prolonging these security checks indefinitely (assuming it's really security checks and not just plain lazyness or bigorty of individual bureaucrats) is a danger to US security. Because if someone poses a real threat they should not be allowed to walk freely around for months or (in some cases) years while USCIS or FBI allegedly checks their records.

Yes, I'm more than positive that I have nothing within my background check! I mean I had a speed ticket and a red light ticket but NOTHING major at all! NO DUI NO CRIMINAL ... Just basic traffic tickets that have been PAID and no tax issue at all .. I pay my tax fully

However, when I went to the info pass appointment last week the officer told me your application looks fine and I see no issues. It's just the fact that Portland-Oregon office is really backed up and it usually takes them 9 months to process the application now a days due to the huge amount of applicants and their office is really small!!! She said you might get something in the mail on December!!! So I'm waiting patiently. Also, according to the processing time on the USCIS website I'm still within the process time as it says Portland-Oregon office processing the applicants who applied on February of 2015! I tried to to lookup people from Oregon on your website who are in the process of applying for citizenship but couldn't fine any people from Oregon! I just want to see their process and their timing so I can compare to mine.

According to USCIS website the last case USCIS processed for Baltimore, MD office is also February, 2015. More specifically February 20th, 2015.

However! The same page shows that the informaiton was last updated on August 31st 2015 (I am sure if you look up USCIS case processing report for Oregon you will find similar reference).

Which means back on August 31st , if USCIS case status information report is true, USCIS processed the very last case with filing date of February 20,2015.

And it took them 6 months and 11 days to complete each case processed at USCIS Baltimore, DO.

If USCIS kept the pace they must be working on cases filed around April 14th 2015, and not February 20th (unless they stopped processing cases on August 31, 2015).

What USCIS customer service does not tell you is this: when your case is placed on hold (for whatever reason), then the clock also stops. So, if it's security check your application is pending then until the moment it's compete USCIS considers the time frozen. Obviously, they will not tell you this, because knowing that you have no security issues and knowing that USCIS had stopped processing your case for allegedly "security" reasons, you may stop being so patient and may start to speak up, contact your representatives or (something USCIS dreads most of all) bring them to a Federal Court. Even if you file a case which ultimately gets dismissed (let's say because by Court's own definiton a case processing time under 2 years is considered "normal"), USCIS still must pay the government attorney to file a brief and explain to judge why it should be dismissed. An officer who was sitting on your case will inevitably get some unwanted attention from US Attorney.

Now a lot of things here are driven by money. Especially all this "security" hype is mostly about business contracts. Just like Witch Hunters in Salem, MA were more interested in appropriating of the property of the alleged Witches, so the modern Puritans, who profit from our ordeal, are not so much concerned for US Security (if they were they would conduct security checks at lightning speed and imemdiately deny, detain and imprison any existing on US soil security threat), as they are with their own pockets. Selling security related faulty softwares, winning lucrative contracts and so on is a very profitable business.

We just happen to be a folk who is the easiest to kick in the rear end and profiting at our expense is taken for granted.

I don't know why in this case we should be so patiently and quitely waiting? We have 1st Amendment right, a Freedom of Political speech, which specifically allows us to peacefully express our grievance (which we can do by verbally expressing and sharing our stories, telling public how the ordeal affects us and etc., by blogging, posting online, writing to media, telling to our friends, co-workers, acquantances and raising general public awareness). And that's what I advised you, and anyone who is in the same circumstance as yourself, to do.
