Congrats Marie and thanks for sharing your experience! Mine is next Friday in the same office!

Sorry for the delay, but here it is. (I have been out-of-town on a work trip.) I had my interview last Friday, June 12, at the Los Angeles Field Office. I'm pretty familiar with the surrounding area, so driving there and estimating traffic was a breeze. There's a parking lot across the street for $16, but I went around looking for meter parking - no luck, so I ended up parking a block away for $6 instead. My appointment was at 11:30 am, and I walked into the building at 11:05am. There was no line to get in the building. I stood downstairs for a few minutes, just to review the questions all over again. I went up to the 8th floor, and got called in at exactly the time of my appointment. The officer lady was very friendly, and immediately made small talk with me as we walked into her office. As soon as we got into her office, she asked me to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. After that, she had me sit down and told me that we are going to start with the test before we go over my application. She asked me to read: "Who lives in the White House?" Then, she asked me to write, " The President lives in the White House." She checked off a sheet in front of her, and marked the correct box. After that, she went on and asked me 6 civics questions, which I got all correct. The questions were as follows:

(1) What is one promise you make when you become a United States Citizen?

(2) Where is the Statue of Liberty?

(3) Who is the Governor of your state now?

(4) What movement tried to end racial discrimination?

(5) If both the President and Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

(6) There are four amendments to the Constitution about who can vote. Describe one of them.

Since I got them all right, she stopped there and counted the questions again. She marked something in her computer, and in the sheet in front of her she was writing exactly how I responded to the questions. She told me that I got them all right, and continued in her computer typing some stuff there. She then said that she will proceed asking me questions about my application, and that went smooth. My application was based on the 5 year rule, but still asked me about what my Husband did for a living. After we went through the whole application, she said that everything went well and continued to type on her computer. As she was typing, she started to converse with me about what I did for a living, she seemed a bit interested. After she finished typing, she went to her printer and gave me the notice that my application has been recommended for approval. Overall, the whole experience was very smooth. And, as of Monday, June 15, I have been placed in-line for the oath ceremony (no name change).

Hope my experience helps some of you guys. :)

Well, today I had my interview.

The appointment was for 12.00PM, so we drove down to San Antoon and got through security at 11.30AM. I sat maybe 3 minutes when the IO came and got me. Had a nice little chat on the the way up to his office.

Of course we went over my N400, and I had to add something I forgot. (membership to an organization) nothing major though. Then he made me read 3 sentences of a piece of paper and I had to write down "The White House is in Washington DC." No problems there.

Then the questions:

-What is an amendment

-What do we show loyalty to when we say the Pledge of Allegiance

-Name one state that borders Mexico

-Who did the US fight in WWII

-Who was president during the great Depression and WWII

-In what month do we vote for president

-Who signs bill to become laws

-Name one US territory

-What is the State Capitol

-When is the last day you can send in federal income tax forms.

And yes, he asked all 10 questions eventhough I already answered the first 6 correctly. He then told me to gather my things, and I got the piece of paper stating I am recommended for approval. And within 20-30 days I should be getting my letter with information on when/where to take the Oath.... :dancing: :joy:

We where back in the car at 11.55AM.... so even before my original appointment time... :goofy:

thanks for the update cdn_in_wa, but how did you find out about this? - sux :(

The Seattle office is taking forever. There are people from last fall that are still waiting for interviews in Seattle. At the rate it's going in Seattle, you'll be lucky if your interview is scheduled before October.

Apparently, they had a bunch of interviewers retire or resign almost a year ago. And I read somewhere that the IOs can't do interviews until they've worked there for at least a year. So, maybe it will speed up a bit once that year has gone by, but don't hold your breath!

I'm just resigned to waiting until the fall to hear anything more. And if it happens any sooner ... :dancing:

I read some of it here and also possibly on another site. If you look at the timelines for other filers on this site, through the Seattle office, you'll see that the time frame is about 8+ months. Also if you check the USCIS site, you can see that in Seattle they are processing at about 8-9 months. Last update there was posted 6/15, stating as of 4/30 they processed 8/16/14 case. :-(

I had my interview this morning. I just wanted to share my experience.

I arrived at the USCIS office 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment so I entered the building right after parking my car. It took about 5 minutes to get through security screening. When I got to the interview section, I gave my interview letter to the front desk and was told to sit and wait to be called. After 10 minutes my name was called. The Immigration officer walked me to his office and as soon as we entered the room he told me to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. As soon as we sat down, he put two brown folders on his desk. The cover said "Property of United States Government." The folders stacked together was at least 4 inches high. I don't remember submitting that much paperwork when I applied for my citizenship or green card. Anyway, he opened one folder that had my application for naturalization. He asked around 6-8 questions on the N-400 application and then he asked me to read one sentence, write one sentence, and answer 6 civic questions. When we are not talking, the IO check off stuff in my application or some paperwork or click something in his computer. He then handed me the paper that says "I passed the english test" and "Congratulations." The interview went really smooth and fast. I was back in my car a couple of minutes before my actual interview appointment time.

i've passed the naturalization in the 23rd. It got delayed for 10 days. My appointment was at 10:50 and I got there at 10. I checked in and waited for exact 50 minutes to be called at USCIS builing. The questions were very easy. I got the first 3 ones right so she skipped the rest. She told me to read 1 sentence and write one sentence. The thing is I feel like this interview was not focus on the civics questions. It was all about my marriage. She asked me tons of questions about my relationship with my partner after the first part. I was finished after abut 30 minutes. I will receive the oath ceremony appointment letter in the mail within 1 to 3 months. Now I have a big issue. I have a Europe trip coming up on the 28th of July? Will I be able to get my passport before I go? ?Without an American passport I can't go. How long does it take to have a passport? I don't mind paying more to get it fast. I have a Vietnamese passport that is a pain in the ### to get a visa to Europe. I live in Los Angeles . Thanks everyone

Once you know your oath date you can schedule an appointment at the passport agency (not a post office or a courthouse) in LA within two weeks of your flight. They may need proof of travel. They will make sure you get your passport in time. You'll just need your naturalization certificate from the oath ceremony. If you apply somewhere other than a passport agency then it could take a few weeks even with an expedited application.

The issue isn't the passport, it's the oath. If you get your oath letter soon you should be fine. If it takes more than a month to get your oath letter then you're probably not going to go to Europe on a U.S. Passport. Since it's so close you may want to start the visa application process or look at rescheduling your trip.

You'll find more information on the passport subforum at the bottom of the citizenship forum.
