I do not mean to come across as mean or anything like that.. but from your post it seems that you have a bit of a hard time communicating in English. Have you received any feedback on why are you not landing the job? Some recruiters are nice and could give you feedback if you ask.

Best,

UnaMexicana

Thank you for your feedback .

On the phone the recruiters keep saying that i have good english and they are impressed ... but i know my english is not perfect ...

IT jobs are less in Michigan compare to NJ, NY,FL ... , and i still didn't had a chance to have a real interview with ( Real recruiter not with third party recruiters ) .

Have you considered moving to another state or do you have roots in Michigan and are committed to staying (Spouse/kids etc)?

Depending on your specialty (software development, networking etc) you might have more options in NYC, SF/Bay area ,RTP or Charlotte in North Carolina, Austin, Dallas or Houston.

If you are having difficulty in Michigan you may have to cast a wider net nationwide..

You might have to try for an internship first. Get your foot in the door so they can see what you do. Do you have your bachelors and masters from Michigan State or Morocco?

Ok, the reason I was asking is because Michigan State has a career center.

If your wife went to State, then she might have access to their center and could get a list of companies here in Michigan and you could apply locally and directly to companies, particularly to get an internship and get your foot in the door, but by all means, apply in other states, because certainly the weather is much better elsewhere :)

What kind of sites/resources are you using to do your job search?

My husband swears by Craigslist eventhough I have always found it rather informal. There is where he actually got the job he has now.

I wish you the very best in your search!

Hey guys , i just want to share something with you .... and my frustration... Why do companies not want to hire over qualified people? Wouldn't it make sense for a company to hire someone especially when they are over-qualified for the job ( Phd , Master ) ??? if the person in question is willing to take a paycut/accept what the company is offering for the job? Many managers feel intimidated/threatened by someone who is possibly more qualified than themselves, and will be reluctant to hire someone who might be able to take their job. Should i ask my self why i'm over-qualified ???

Yeah, I think you answered your own questions. One, they might feel threatened and two, they might believe you will eventually expect a bigger salary and not stick around.

I completely support this statement as I experienced it myself. I have been searching for job for last 1 month seriously and reached up to final interview two times but still no luck. In 1 job hiring manager was not even confident speaking about job skills requirement, but called me because I have more years of experience and better qualification than her and she was looking for one helping hand to her. She wanted to hire me initially, but when saw my confidence level more than her, never came back to me even though she explained second step and referred few books and terms for preparing for the second round. I was very confident in getting that job as my interview on my part went really well. She was admiring all my experience throughout interview process, but changed her mind after I left probably. She has hired freshers (she told me in the interview) for the position earlier and that's what she will do this time too, even though she will have to work hard more (she was complaining about it in interview that how she had to train all freshers whom she hired earlier) and company will suffer more, but better than having someone better looking, intelligent and more experienced than her.

I feel it is better for me to apply for more opportunities than getting hired and work for these people because one will always suffer with them. They will never do any good or let you do any good for company and it will always be a power game.

I must say be patient and wait for better thing which you deserve.
