this is where it gets sticky. if i believed jesus was god's son and savior of the world - i would disagree with your interpretation. i would believe that jesus was speaking of my point. but then, i reasoned/explained my way right out of even believing in god so, sure jesus told grieving family members that if they believed in him - they would live forever and reunite.

most of my childhood doubting started with the premise that in heaven you would recognize and get to spend eternity only with other people who had also gotten into heaven. how can it be paradise/heaven if you can't be with your unsaved loved ones? the answer i was given was that it wouldn't matter if my unsaved loved one was not in heaven with me, i would be so in awe of the presence of god that there would be no memory or sadness regarding that earthly connection. that didn't comfort me in the slightest, it had the opposite effect.

That's why you should convert your loved ones into the same religion as you are, so that you all can be together in heaven
