Did you have an issue adding your S.O. to you medical insurance? Did you have to provide any previous records to the insurance company?

For my ex husband had no problems didn't need to submit anything just his SS number. and no issues when I had to take him off!!! It could possibly vary depending on the carrier, but I doubt they would make it too difficult.

I tried to add my husband to the medical, and they won't until he has a social security number...can't do that until he is here

Oh...I wonder if they will take his ITIN when it is processed...hmmm

Well of course...I want him added to anything possible before he comes. I have a one-track mind when it comes to our evidence...after what we've been through with a petition return I guess I can't blame myself :D

Oh ok, I thought you meant for another reason. I don't know if its only a law in California or not but here you have to add your spouse within 30 days of the qualifying event (marriage) or wait until the next open enrollment. However I was thinking that if you got married abroad and your S.O. wasn't here yet there might be a way around that.

In California you can't be asked for any pre-existing conditions or any previous medical history when you begin group health insurance, ie, through your employer. So you should be fine, he won't need anything from hom to get insurance.

Another qualifying event would be if he loses a job and therefore his insurance.

I don't know about the wait for a SS#, though, how that factors in, and if the insurance co. will allow a delay in enrollment if it's beyond 30 days from marriage.

How can one claim God cares to judge a fornicator over judging a lying, conniving bully? I guess you would if you are the lying, conniving bully.

It's true, most insurance companies have a 30-day window after a "qualifying event" to make changes to your coverage, otherwise you have to wait for the next open enrollment.

However, it's possible that your insurance company may be able to make an allowance for a spouse who is not yet in the country -- call them and ask. Mine did. They started counting the 30 days upon his actual arrival in the U.S. We didn't have his social security number until about 5 or 6 weeks after he got here, but they just added him using his passport number. (Of course as soon as the SS # was issued, I called and updated them with that info.)

Definitely call your insurance company with these questions -- sooner, rather than later.
