No "Welcome to America" Letter.....

Hi Everyone,

Good luck on your immigration journeys. Looking at other VJer's timelines, I can see that they received some sort of "Welcome To America" letter when they got their Green Card. What exactly is this letter anyways?

Is it just me, or did anyone else around here not receive such a letter? I know it's not important now, as I already received my Green card. But I was just wondering if I was the only one left out, that's all. Boy, do I feel so "unwelcomed" (just kidding)....

And the Welcome letter is a letter I got just before my GC arrived - complete with mispellings in it - oh well... did you get a case status message saying Welcome notice mailed? It just tells you your responsibilities as a permanent resident and to read everything carefully.

Hi CutienPurg,

Good luck on your immigration journey. Lol....Thanks for the big welcome! I guess that sort of makes up for the fact that I was hassled at the border for about 2 hrs when I came over (lol..that's another story), but the interview went quicker, about 15 mins or so, and I got my Green Card, so I guess that's the welcome from the US government?

And the same goes back to you too.....

Good luck on your immigration journey. Congrats about getting your welcome letter (don't worry about the misspellings, as long as your GC is spelt right is all that matters) and congrats your Green Card too.

Hmmm...now that I think about it, my situation is kind of funny. No, I did not get any status messages (and yes, I did check), or anything like that. All I got was 1)My Green Card 2)The mailer label, in case I lose my card and need to contact the government 3)A message saying that I can dowload the rights and responsiblites thing on the government website. I still have no welcome letter, oh well. Still I'm happy, I got my Green Card, and that's what matters.

I posted this message, as I was wondering if anyone else was in the same situation and did not get their "welcome letter" either.

Who knows, maybe they are trying to save paper around here? Or then again, maybe they didn't welcome me, because I was already in the USA when I applied for my Green Card. Hmmmm....

You're not missing much, apart from spelling mistakes and USCIS referring to itself as "INS", "BCIS" and USCIS on the same document, they obviously have issues remembering their own name.

For me it was mostly a source of laughs, getting a letter that says "Welcome to America" after living here for 8 years.

Actually, I received the notice that my card had been ordered; then I received the green card, and finally - the day after I received my green card I received my Welcome letter. You might still get it:-)

Lol...yes, I do find my situation quite funny indeed. It's been several months since I got my Green Card, and I figure that if I didn't get a "Welcome Letter" then, I probably won't get one now. Oh well...That's ok, no loss there (as I've been told).

Nevertheless, I still feel very welcomed here in the USA, and especially in the VJ community here.
