My wife(who is getting the green card) and I went to our interview this week and were approved at the end of the interview. We have also seen on the website the following:

"we registered your permanent resident status and mailed you a Welcome Notice for Receipt Number MSC.. Your new permanent resident card should arrive by XXX, 2015, after this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later"

However the message also says the green card will be deliver as late as a month from now. I understand it may come sooner but we want to travel next week. Can we simply print our the message from the website and my wife can travel safely with that? Her Green Card is approved. We are just waiting on the physical card.

I attempted to make an appointment to get the stamp that everyone is talking about that she can get to travel before the card comes but the LA office has no appts until 1st week of March.

Thanks for all responses.

Your wife does not need anything but her German passport to leave the country, however, she will need the green card or AP to return to the US. You cannot use printed out message simply stating a status to re-enter.
