Applying for AOS from J1: grace period almost over still no I-693

Hi! I started my journey in the US as a J1 way back in Nov 2012. I extended my visa through my agent and moved to a new property in Savannah. I met my soon-to-be husband in June 2013.

I went home to graduate and came back here with another J1 visa. My visa ends on March 3rd.

We are about to file all other documents except the I-693 since we did not know that it takes very long to get all things done.

Q: Will I have to pay another fee to file my I-485 with the medical files?

Q2: or Can I complete it and file within my grace period (March 3- April 3) or that would make me not eligible?

Please help.

I-693 turnaround time is only 4-5 days maximum (if your TB test is good.) I don't know why you think it takes very long. It is very essential document so get it done and file altogether with other forms (I130, I485, I765, I131...) Good luck.

Hi! thank you so much for responding.

My fiance and I will get married on Feb 24 but we would not be back in town until the 28th. I have to file my paperworks before the end of my visa which is on March 3.

i guess my other question is that do you think it would be alright if I file even after my visa is expired; I would be out of status by then?

Don't worry about out of status, it is forgiven when you get married to USC. Paperworks need to be prepared, don't rush you will end up in RFEs and hassles. You can do medical exam now at your convenience, no need to wait after marriage.
