Hi, I just finished my oath ceremony today and got my certificate! The speaker told us to go to Social Security dept to update our info in 10 days. I didn't understand why? I didnt changed name. Why do we have to go to Social Security? THANKS

I sent out a Affidavit of Financial Support anyways, I told my Mother not to show it if they will not ask any documents from us or where she will stay or who will pay for her visits here. Overall that letter will be just there just in case. I am not sure why its hard to get a old mother/father to visit us here in United States. I understand the fact if it just a relatives, the chances of being illegal is higher. But with the parents, it doesn't make any sense especially if they have the contact information of the person they are visiting in here.

It's to get your US citizenship recorded with SSA. Citizens qualify from some SS benefits/procedures that residents don't.

Do i have to go after 10 days orwithin 10 days after the oath? Which one to do first, update SSN or US passport application? I read that with US application takes weeks and you have to submit your certificate.

You have to update your social after 10 days from naturalization and the reason why is to give USCIS enough time to update your status as a citizen. The SS office has to confirm your status with USCIS even though that you bring the naturalization certificate with you. You can apply for your passport first if you want and than do the social security if you do it the other way its ok as well.
