Starting to get the paperwork together for a tourist visa for my g/f. Its time for her to sit on a airplane for 23hrs. Im from US. have 3 questions.

1- I lost my income tax returns for 2012 and 2013, when my computer self destructed. Can I use a transcript, or do I need to pay for the full copies from the IRS.

2 She was refused a visitor visa 12yrs ago (we are both in our 50s) On another web site, it looks like I need to write a letter to the consulate, explaining why she was refused. Including a letter of invitation. Can someone explain what I would need to write in the letter to the consulate?

3- Bank statements. Like most people I use my atm card for everything. My bank statements are 9-15 pages long. Do they really need all of these pages or can I just send page 1 which gives daily balance number of deposits and withdrawals and check numbers and amounts.

Anyone want to give odds on her being approved this time? She is a goverment employee, 5yrs from retirement. Has a townhouse, mother and 2 adult children in country. Not a lot of money in the bank account. She was refused last time, because caught a attitude with the interviewer. The interviewer stated that she would probably not return, because she has a masters degree and is very employable in the states. She also has a Shengen (spelling) visa and we have traveled through Europe a few times. Never over staying always coming back early.

Thanks so much.. And Kudos to everyone that does this, Cant believe how difficult they make it.

The following documents are not considered helpful:

  • In general, affidavits of financial support will be of little value to an applicant (exception: a student visa application must have an affidavit of financial support). The affidavit of support is a requirement only for immigrant visas. The interviewing officer is less concerned about how the applicant will be supported during his/her stay in the United States than in whether s/he has reasons to return home.
  • Letters of invitation (except for business travel).
  • Purchase of airline ticket. This should not be made until a visa has been issued and the applicant is in receipt of the passport with the visa in it.

Your GF has to show strong ties to her country, reasons to return home after US trip

Thus she should be the one showing documents to prove her strong ties, e.g. employment letter, town home ownership.. etc

1. Not needed

2. Not needed

3. Not needed

For someone applying for a tourist visa, they need to apply with their own documents and their own proof of being able to return to their country. Absolutely nothing is needed from you.
