Hey guys, I'm new to this website and came here hoping to maybe seek some comfort for my nerves.

My fiance and I recently got engaged at the end of January, and we just filled out all the necessary paperwork to file our petition to get the process started and I'm so nervous it will be denied for a few reasons.

Apparently, the fact I'm Canadian is a benefit as the interviews are not that hard because we're so close to the US....although I feel that's a rumour and it's equally hard for everybody lol

I'm just nervous because yes, our relationship is completely legitimate, we love each other deeply and want to spend our lives together, but it seems our relationship compared to others seems, I don't know, different.

We met online, not through a dating site, but through a forum and we clicked instantly. We became super close friends and fell in love instantly, we would skype each other everyday and I would visit him in Wisconsin every two months once it became official we started dating, but the thing that I'm afraid of is...we've only been together for a year and I don't want it to seem suspicious because we haven't been together for many years. We want to get married now because we know we're meant for each other

Another thing that worries me is the type of people we are. Our idea of a great time together is hanging out in town, going out to dinner and watching movies on Netflix all day in his apartment...so that's what we do. Outside of travelling to Michigan to spend Christmas with his family, we've never really traveled together, so we don't have too many pictures together apart from a few selfies we took just for fun lol. Even our engagement was kind of lax, we both never really wanted a huge white wedding or a big elaborate engagement, he gave me a ring last October as a commitment, then in January we were having a great conversation and he just popped the question that way, I'm nervous that seems suspicious to them too.

We're sending in the pictures we do have, our intent to marry, and a letter his mother wrote for us supporting our relationship. I just feel it will never be enough. I'm so nervous

I've wanted a lot of things in my life, but never anything this badly. Can anybody offer any words of comfort? Haha. Is the petition approval rate normally pretty high?

I can't really say much in terms of specific embassy's as I'm from the UK rather than Canada but, as for the other questions -

My fiancé and I had been together for exactly a year when we became engaged (he proposed on our anniversary) and we then started the application process a month later, I've seen storys of people who have been together for far less time and had no problems so I wouldn't worry about that being an issue! We just sent a handful of pictures (most were simply selfies with I think 2 being us in front of a castle and things that were in my hometown and his) and they didn't seem to have an issue as our petition was accepted yesterday. We also sent our flight itineraries and copies of our boarding passes from visits, so if you have anything like this I'd suggest adding them in for evidence, we also added in a picture of the ring he gave me and some copies of scrapbook pages which had cinema tickets and things (not very strong evidence but it was all we had). From what I've seen boarding passes/passport stamps/etc. are very good for showing you've entered the country as well as sending pictures with you together to show you've met in person should be fine. Make sure you triple check all the forms and include letters for intent to marry for both of you with each signed in wet ink (they don't accept digital signatures).

Best of luck and I hope this helps at least some! :)

You have nothing to worry about trust me :) my now hubby met online and in all honesty our idea of fun is watching things on Netflix or just hanging out playing video games :P

We met twice before filing our K1 and had no issues, I think I sent a total of 6 pictures of us. Just breathe you'll be fine.

there is no thing to worry about, i can tell how much you want to be with your fiance so thats why you are so nervous, me and my fiance we just met one time and they accpeted our petition, just make sure to send the flights ticket copy, and some of your pictures together, pictures with his family too if you have.. again dont be nervous, it will be alright for you,

And if you don't have plane tickets, there is an option to send in just a list of the dates and locations you met. My fiance is Canadian, but we live within easy driving distance, so we had no plane tickets or hotel receipts. I know we have a request for evidence coming, but I'm 99% sure that's only because I left his letter of intent in my copy machine. Also we haven't been together for a year, and had a very low key engagement as well. Your relationship sounds quite legitimate to me!

Some people get engaged after a month, for all of us in LDRs once we know, we know, it's understandable no one wants to waste time and date longer before getting engaged precisely because you are so far apart. And you guys have been together for a year, that's a serious commitent, don't you worry.

You said you filled out the info but I'm not sure you already sent it. Just make sure to put dates and places and who is in the photo on the back of each picture to show USCIS that you have been in different places together. Also proof of your relationship through emails, skype logs, text messages/whatsapp/viber/facebook helps as well.

Best of luck and really at this point don't worry, in fact try not to worry through this whole process because there will be plenty of reasons to freak out (did the papers arrive? when are we going to get the case number) but just don't let this whole process to get to you. It's really awesome you guys can visit so often!
