Good day to all!

I just wanted to ask for update if its ok? I am in the same situation also. I am graduating in May and will go back to Hawaii after, I want to petition my long time gf. I have been prepping all requirements and all of a sudden I read that Manila Embassy does not allow co-sponsorship. :(

Thank you!

USEM does accept co-sponsors with the K-1 visa, but they are not required to accept co-sponsors. When they do consider a co-sponsor with the K-1 visa USEM looks for the co-sponsor to be a close relative (parents, siblings).

Being you are in the Philippines, why not get married then file the IR/CR-1 visa (spouse), embassy is required to accept a qualified co-sponsor, any qualified co-sponsor, with the immigrant visa.

Thanks for the reply Hank!

I'm sorry for not giving any background info. We are in a same-sex relationship for 12years now. I was working for 6 years and making abour $30,000 a year but i decided to go back here in the Philippines to study Nursing. Same-sex marriage in Hawaii was approved the year I left to go to school. Haha. Anyways, I was hoping to bring my girlfriend with me back home. I prepared all the documents needed and are ready to be sent with my mom more than willing to help out but when I saw online that MANILA US EMBASSY DOES NOT ACCEPT co-sponsorship, i had second thoughts.

but now seeing other posts and even blogs from the U.S Embassy here in the Philippines, I feel like I'd just have to take the risk and gamble everything and just hope and pray that they would consider. :)

Everything went smoothly for me and my (now) husband. He already has his green card. Just like what Hank said make sure you have a valid co sponsor. Especially when filing for the green card in the future (if still needed). Good luck and best wishes!

Ah that does change things some... ;)

USEM is picky with co-sponsors regarding the K-1, but they do accept them. Just follow what I suggested - make sure to use a close family member as the co-sponsor, doesn't guarantee acceptance but it vastly improves the odds.

One last thing; many times in the past 2 years USEM doesn't even ask for the I-134 during the interview.. it is still listed as required and is asked for, just not always. You may not even get asked thus removing the co-sponsor worries. For sure be prepared just the same.
