Original documents at the time of interview

Hello Mates,

I have submitted all the original documents at the time of interview i.e Birth certificates , Marriage certificates etc. So should I take another original copy of all the documents from the concerned authorities ? Because at the time of interview they will ask for the Original documents. What should I do now ? People who went through this phase please guide me so that I can save my time. And one more question, I live in Pakistan so they didn't ask for character or Police certificate. Should I get one for the interview or won't they ask for the interview as well ?

Quick responses will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

NVC sends all the originals to US consulate Islamabad, so they will already have your originals at the time of interview. Only take originals if you haven't send something to NVC. And they don't ask for Police certificate. I emailed US embassy and they told me its not required.

I was reading their official website and it was mentioned that they will ask for all the original documents at the time of interview. And at the time of documents submission they also asked for the original documents. So I am very curious about this thing. We already had a lot of troubles regarding this case so I don't want to waste our time anymore. Did you go through this phase ? Do you have any official website link or any contact details of concerned authorities who can guide me better ?

-Thanks

http://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/policy_updates/National%20_Visa_Center_No_Longer_Collecting_Original_Civil_Documents_November_2014.pdf

1. Summary. The National Visa Center (NVC) will cease collecting original civil documents in
support of immigrant visa (IV) applications as of November 12, 2014. Most applicants will be
required to submit photocopies of supporting documents (such as birth, marriage, and police
certificates) and will be instructed to take their original documents to their interviews for review.
This does not include Affidavit of Support forms, which petitioners will still submit to NVC for
initial evaluation. End Summary.
New Instructions to Applicants

2. After applicants and petitioners collect the Affidavit of Support form(s), financial evidence,
and supporting civil documents, they are instructed to submit all of the documents to NVC. As of
November 12, 2014, applicants at non-electronic processing posts will be instructed to submit
photocopies of their civil documents by mail. NVC will review the copies and, when the case is
documentarily complete, will place the copies into the file, which will be sent to post, increasing
the number of cases that are documentarily qualified. When the appointment is scheduled, NVC
will instruct applicants to bring their original documents to the interview for evaluation and final
case processing. Original Affidavit of Support forms will still be submitted to NVC for initial
evaluation. Applicants at designated electronic processing posts will continue to submit their
documents via email.

3. NVC anticipates this change will maintain the integrity of the IV process, reduce customer
wait times, and improve the customer experience overall.

And what will you recommend me about the police / character certificates ? As we all know they don't consider Pakistani's police character certificate. To save my time and to minimize my risk should i get police certificate as well before the interview ?

Dear shobby, if you have already submitted originals to the nvc, they will forward it to the isb embassy for interview. That is how it has been done until few months ago when they lifted the restriction of requiring the originals for the nvc phase. I have seen nvc occasionally misplacing the I-864. So I would advice you get another signed copy of the I-864 and related financial supporting docs for the interview just in case. Also I was advised by someone to obtain the police certificate even though it is not required, just in case you never know. Since you already have an email reply from isb that it is not needed you can print it and take it with you to the interview in case if that question comes up.

Yes same thing... I believe its titled "Police Character Certificate" and usually has an expiry date of three months from the issue date... and i have heard that the isb embassy dont care about the printed expiry date... as long as it is not older than a year at the time of interview.

@Sarahch Thanks for sharing your experience. I will keep this thing in my mind.

@trueAshiq Thanks for such an important information. I will wait for my interview date to come and if they will mention Police character certificate in their letter then I will go for it. They will give us minimum 15 to 30 days before appointment.

Here is an excerpt from the ISB interview letter:

? - He or she still lives in the country that issued the police certificate.
On the last page of the letter it reads....

PAKISTAN POLICE CERTIFICATE X
In the letter the status 'X' is defined as: 'This document is unobtainable'
