You're in Washington State. How close to British Columbia are you? Tell him to visit Canada instead and have a small civil ceremony in British Columbia. Have a mini vacation. He can go home and you can go home and you can file as a married couple. Just another option to consider.

If we were in a rush to get married, I think that would be a wonderful idea and great for some people. But I was looking over the visa comparison chart ( http://www.visajourney.com/content/compare ) and it seems like if we were married we'd need to go for the K3 visa which would take longer and cost more in the long run. So I'm just not sure how good of an option it would be for us. Thanks for the help though! :D I really do appreciate any feedback.

No, you'd need the CR-1 visa. K3s are obsolete and it is a rare case they've been issued in the last few years.

Of course. We've been talking about a lot of things and getting an idea of all the plans we need to have in place. We're hoping/planning for a May 2016 wedding. Should be plenty of time to plan the full wedding, even with all the visa/legal complications. We'll be sending in the visa in just a couple weeks, once we've got EVERYTHING we need, double and triple checked, and multiple copies of everything. All thanks to everyone's help here :content::thumbs:

Could ask why was his visa denied, most common reason is not being able to prove a person doesn't own enough property or family to want to go back to.

Latest reason is ISIS, failing a background test.

This is what a K1 is for, if you want to get married and do everything above board. Coming here is only the first step, a lot follows this, and waiting does prove you have a valid relationship.

Most of us know that went through this, was not an easy process.

He was denied because he doesn't have enough work history over there in Ireland and that there wasn't enough financial support over here. Even though I make more than the 125% for two people... The whole thing didn't really make much sense to me, considering he was only applying for an extended holiday visa. But in the long run I guess it's gonna work out better because now we're on this path with the K-1 and getting married ^_^ So it's not all bad. Gotta stay positive and keep thinking about the future.

We have no say in even getting our closest relatives here in terms of a visa, even as close as a son. Strictly on the individual dealing with one of our consulates with sufficient proof they will return to their home country because of assets or whatever.

You will need to be able to show support for your new husband at 125% of the poverty level for the next ten years, and holds true whether you stay married or not. But if you stay married, this I-864 contract with the government is terminated the day he becomes a US citizen.

I guess the USCIS wants you to make darn sure you are doing the right thing.

He could have visited for up to 90 days, it is going to be a hard sell that he needs and can take more vacation.

Before we found this website (and before we planned on getting engaged/married) we were trying to get him over here for about a year so that we could live together, build the start to a life, and get engaged the good ol' fashion way. He also didn't have a job, so coming to stay with me for a year or more wouldn't have been a problem. So we tried applying for an extended visitor visa, which got denied. So although that experience was upsetting, it was a lesson to be learned. And well, now we're gonna get married and we couldn't be happier :)
