I just wanted to share my fiance's experience in requesting her JPC (as she described to me). Greenbaum's post above has way more details about what is allowed or recommended to bring, so please see that too.

My fiance went to the Japanese Embassy and presented her passport and NOA2, they did NOT ask for any kind of request letter from the US embassy. They asked her name and some basic info, the lady filled in some paperwork, then handed her a form to bring to Camp Crame in Quezon City. At Camp Crame, she was given another form to fill out and was instructed to pay the fee of P200. She went to the Landbank nearby to pay. Back at Camp Crame, she was instructed to go to the 2nd floor to have her fingerprints taken. She applied her fingerprints to both forms, one form for Camp Crame to keep, and the other form to bring back to the Japanese Embassy. At the embassy, she gave them the fingerprinted form and one 2x2 photo, then she was given another form to fill up with her contact information. Finally, the staff told her to expect the clearance to arrive in 2 months, and that they would contact her by phone when they get it.

I will follow Greenbaum's advise of calling the embassy after 1 month, then maybe every 1-2 weeks. I really hope we get the clearance before her interview though, we're currently aiming for mid to late April.

Greenbaum,

Sorry I didn't get to you until now. The process at the Cebu office is basically the same. We just told them we needed a police certificate from Japan for a K-1 visa for the USEM and they did not asked for documents or letters(though I had my NOA2 letter for backup). You fill out some forms and then they have an address to get your fingerprints. We paid a fee for that but there is no fee to process the paper work at the Japanese consular office. She told us it would be about 2 months even though it says 2-3 months to process.

It is true that the process in Japan is fast but somehow it takes almost a month to get the letter to the Japanese embassy/consular office. My fiancee had to process a police certificate back in January 2011 and the police certificate was dated only 26 days later but we didn't received the letter until 2 months later. Too bad we had already opened that certificate......hahaha.

Thanks for the reply. From what I am seeing it looks like the PC is completed in about a month and is sent to JPE in Manila and that is where it sits and that is why I recommending that you call in 30 days and then every 15 thereafter. Just my thoughts.
