Tekejian44, you have no guarantee of any date until your fiancé arrives in your arms. There are others that have had the same predicament as you and later found out it was a mistake to put any down payment down or make any certain monetary plans. Please try to put off putting a down payment down until you know for certain.

Hi everyone! I don't know what to do! I have to put my down payment for the wedding venue Saturday, thinking I would have found out by now, but haven't :( I don't know if I should put the Down payment down :/

If you are certain you want a particular venue talk to them. Explain your predicament. See if they can include in the contract that if you are not approved in time that any monetary funds paid can be transferred to another date. That is what I did, my venue was able to include a provision that my (Feb) date can be transferred to any other date in 2016 as long as I did not cancel. Good luck!

Our K-1 journey:

3/2/2015- Petition sent Fedex overnight

3/3/2015- Petition received (NOA1 according to USCIS website)

3/5/2015- Paper NOA1 notice date

9/1/2015- NOA2!! (182 days)

9/4/2015- sent to NVC

9/17/2015- finally got through to NVC and case number assigned

9/24/2015-Status changed to "in transit"

9/29/2015-Dublin Embassy Received

9/29/2015-Packet 3 Received

10/7/2015- Medical scheduled

10/7/2015- Packet 3/readiness sent (Dublin Embassy needs medical complete before readiness is sent)

10/8/2015- Interview scheduled for Oct 29

10/29/2015- Interview, approved! (241 days)

11/9/2015- Visa in hand

12/30/2015- Planned US entry

Thank you everyone for the advice I really appreciate it. They will have in the contract that I just have to let them know 6 months in advance if I need to change the date, so that won't be until March of 2016 so I think that will be plenty of time. We're not having the big wedding until September 2016

hi guys i am a January filer too. thank you for this post its really useful to know about your stories.

i am just wondering to know, do we get notification when nvc recieves our file from uscis? it's been around 12 days since i got msg from uscis on 20th of July that they have sent my file to nvc but i didnt get any notification from nvc if they have recieved it or not. as i have seen in people's timeline that their process is much faster after NOA2. and they have been issued bin number plus consulate recieved their files with 4 to 5 days difference, respectively.

Do i need to ring nvc to check status or just wait?

Congratulations on the approvals! Seeing other people from January make it through is the only thing keeping me sane right now.

In other news, "happy 200 days without NOA2" to us :joy:

I'm right there with you! 200 days as of today for us too. Completely discouraging. However, that has GOT to mean it's coming soon!! Good luck!!

Mine recently got sent to the NVC as well. What people normally say is to wait a couple weeks after your NOA2 date, then start calling the NVC. Be prepared to get infuriated with their music while you're on hold...and you'll be on hold for a while, sometimes only for them to tell you that they haven't received it yet. Don't worry though and keep calling. The best time to call, in my opinion, is at 7am EST. They will ask for your USCIS receipt number, along with the name and date of birth of both you and your fiance(e). If they have it in their system, they will give you a case number. With that number, you can start tracking your case (see when it arrives at the embassy, then the status of it, etc.) You can find the phone number on the K1 flowchart here.

Good luck!
