Thanks to everyone on this great thread and congrats again to those who are moving on with positive NOA2's. Also, thanks to those who sent me encouraging words.

My fiancé had a legal divorce in Japan five years ago. It was a City Ward divorce (No Court Involved). 80 to 90% of divorces in Japan are done this way. But it creates an issue because there is no " Court Decree.

With I-129f we sent in the family register of her Ex-Husband which is how they record the Divorce there, But I recently learned that US Citizens with divorced fiancés in Japan get RFE's to provide the "Court Decree" ......which is, impossible.

We obtained a different document called a "Certificate of Acceptance of Divorce" (Certified by the Seal of the Mayor) and that will be the response to the likely RFE. It's the only possible response, since there is no "Court Decree". I must admit to concern that we're going fall into a technical trap because I can't ever provide a "Court Decree" from the civil municipal divorce system used in Japan.

I have been unable to confirm whether other Japanese fiancés with this civil "no court" divorce has made it through the process, but I imagine some way out of this Catch-22 must exist where there is "Court Decree" for the divorce. I was told that the form of Divorce involved is given "Comity" by the United States (They accept it) and I checked with the US Department of State and received some data to suggest this is true. But exactly how the USCIS deals with this issue is still unknown to me.

Anyway, good luck to everyone and reading about all the approvals gives me much solace and good feeling for others during this difficult time.

Good evening January TSC filers! I have been a daily reader of this thread the past three months keeping up with everyone and enjoying the messages of support! My fiancé, John, and I are January 13th filers and have yet to hear. He lives in Nicaragua and me in New Mexico! Congrats to all of you with approvals! I am an eternal optimist so I am hoping next week is our week (as I hope every week) however this visa waiting nonsense has been rough!! I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed for all of us these coming weeks! Good luck everyone!! -Stephanie

Bloopygirl, are you planning to schedule your medical prior to having an interview date set? We're trying to decide if he should just get it out of the way once he gets home since he has to fly in from NL.

I'm probably just going to wait because mine arrived at the consulate today... I'm emailing packet 3 to them tonight. But I can see why you guys would want to schedule it in advance. I guess it couldn't hurt, if they will let you. I heard that it can take a week to come in the mail so just don't schedule it too close to when your interview might be.

4/21/2016 - Got green card! :) No immigration worries til 2018!

This is so frustrating, I really hope us January filers from tsc find out this week. I'm a January 20th filer. I feel like no news is good news, I hope. That if there was a ROE we would have found out already. Good luck everyone! I wish nothing but the best for everyone

I will have a file so organized I am hoping it makes it so much easier for him in the interview. American immigration in Tampa is fair by far to K1 Visas and spouses here. Casablanca is my nightmare for my fiance after reading VJ. AND HE SPENT THE LAST 2 YEARS WAITING..I am so happy for us

I'm so happy for you both! :-D I've been waiting to hear you've been approved. Feeling guilty that so many Jan's are still waiting while we are about to schedule our interview.
