we waited 2 weeks after POE and applied for her SSN# on Feb. 2nd 2015 in our local Chicago office. she showed her birth certificate , I-94 form, and passport with visa. (K-1 VISA)

the card hasn't arrive yet... what was your time frame if you guys was in the same situation??? I just want to get an idea.....

we also received a letter saying:

Before we can issue you a social security number card, we must verify the documents you gave us to show your alien status with the federal, state, or local office in the United States that issued the documents.

thanks in advance

With us it was an oversight which delayed our SSN process. The lady at the counter in the Social Security office didn't mention that the address you give as your residence or mailing address has to be registered with the post office since they mail out the SSN card by secure mail. If the USPS doesn't recognize you as ordinarily receiving mail at that address, they'll shred the mail and it will never get to you.

We arranged another appointment at the Social Security office where they told us all about that, and they also fixed the name (for some reason the name on the I94 was mangled and they thought my actual first name was my First name followed by my two middle names).

If you're not registered with the post office to receive mail at that address (let's face it, it's not likely), then you'll need to have the SSA send you out another card (which I believe comes off your lifetime limit of 10 cards per person) and have it mailed to an address like the following:

ALIEN'S NAME

C/O US CITIZEN'S NAME (or owner of the mailbox/resident of the home)

123 STREET NAME

CITY, STATE

12345

Good luck!

oh wow.

That's 'DHS Verification'

and I suggest you go back and apply again, apply in VISA name.

Usually if you apply in MARRIED Name, this DHS Verification process is triggered.

Sometimes, when the clerk does a SAVE DB lookup, and the name is wrong or the A# is a typo, they send out for DHS Verification also.

Tick Tock, tempus fugit, and you've got past the 74 day window past the POE event, without a SSN.

I Strongly Recommend you get into SSA office today or tomorrow, grab a supervisor, ask for SAVE DB lookup in VISA Name and A#, and apply again.

Smells like a problem, at the moment, since you got this letter.

It can take 4 to 6 weeks. They just have to do their checks.

not if the SSA clerk was successful in using the SAVE DB lookup at their computer.

Usually, can get the number next day, go in person, ask, inquire.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

We applied for my SSN in the local SSA office in Kansas City, MO on January 6th, 2015 (exactly 1 month after POE) and my Social Security Card landed in our mailbox 6 days later.

Good luck to you, I hope you will get your card soon.

if you not go back next day and get the number, you're wasting time.

precious time.

Got this 'letter'? Something wrong with the name, as stored in the SAVE DB database.

as to 'meaning', check out my ssn - how to topic in this sub-forum, there's a link about it.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
