But thanks a lot for all the information you are all very helpful!!

It just amazes me that the immigration and DMV doesn't have a defined process to those situations. Seems each state and even each local office can operate differently, tried to call the DMV in Sacramento and they put me on hold for over 30 minutes and they still were not sure of what are the accepted documents to show proof of legal presence.

Thanks to all of you for being so helpful.

I have similar experience. I got a letter from DMV that we need to provide a proof of status, we mailed DMV all NOA its almost 2 months we have not heard back.

when we went to local DMV they said expiry was due to residency status expiry they can not extend locally or issue temp license we need to wait till we get anything from DMV Sacramento. They also told us it takes 2-3 month to hear from DMV.

The infopass appointment would be at one of the USCIS offices right? The closest is 4 hours and a half from where I live.

I would be willing to go there and get the stamp but since I might hear from the immigration soon on my case (applied in October/14) I would rather try to go to the DMV again and only show my ID or the 797 notice again and see how it goes or wait until beginning of next month and see if I receive a decision on my case.

how far are you from Santa Ana DMV?

My friend got his DL extended with no hassle. you might wanna give a try!

Hi,

I decided to schedule an Infopass appointment because I will be going overseas in March and seems several people advised to have the I-551 stamp on the passport. The closest office is almost 6 hours away in San Fran but will take the chance. I wasn't sure about the option I had to choose but I selected "Question about your case" Anyone has gone to an infopass appointment before? Does it matter the option you choose?

I was wondering if they will only give me the stamp for 6 months or 1 year as it shows on the extension letter? Because if they give me for one year I can use that to visit the DMV as well.

Thanks again!!!
