I agree free things are hard to come by. I can't think of many free things to do but I can think of low cost activities. Whenever hubby and I go out to eat we usually hit happy hour. Also, there's an outdoor mall by us, and every sunday they have free live music. So we go there, buy a cup of coffee, maybe an ice cream and enjoy the afternoon. There's also window shopping at vintage/antique shops! If you don't want to pay for movie rentals you can always rent movies from the library or if you're feeling really adventurous, reading a good book under a nice big tree. You can even supplement that with a picnic. My hubby and I never subscribed to cable when we moved into our apt, instead we did the $16.20 a month unlimited movie rentals from hollywood video. No more commercials!

I am assuming you are from the chicago area... I found this site.... it lists a bunch of places to go taht have free admission in the Chicago Area...

http://www.free-attractions.com/chicago.htm

or search here for a different city in Illinois...

http://www.free-attractions.com/state_pages/illinois.htm

just a side note but you can use this site to find free things to do all over the United States

http://www.free-attractions.com/

For movies, subscribe to this rental service; Netflix I think is what it is called and it's somewhere around $20 for as many movie as you can watch per month, including free shipping. Most people I know like it (I prefer to support the local store, so no personal experience) and claim it saves them lots of money given the price of going to the movies or renting at one of the big chains.

we subscribe to Netflix... we pay about 25 bucks a month and we can have up to 4 movies at a time .... there are no late fees and you can return movies whenever you want.... when you send in a movie they will send you another movie on your list.... there is no shipping charges either... when you get the movie is comes with a return envelope and you just stick the DVD in there when you have finsihed watching it and then drop it in the mailbox.. we get a new movie in about 2 days...

they do have different options... there is one where you pay about 10 bucks a month and you can have 1 movie at a time etc... but there is no limit on how many you can rent in a month...

This service is great if you like to watch a lot of movies and it is great because you can watch the movie whenever you feel like it and you don't have to worry about rushing it back to the store on time...

I used to do the Netflix thing but now I do the blockbuster.com...about the same thing about $20 a month and you get 3 movies at a time...they now have added where you get cupons once a week for one free instore movie rental.

But I agree there are not many free things to do around my town, I live in Orlando, FL tourist city so most things cost an arm and a leg. I do like to take my dog and walk around a lake that is downtown.

From Cosmo Magazine

Have Fun with Him for Free

Have Fun with Him for Free

1. Park your car in a secluded place and make out like horny high schoolers. Crank slow jazz, roll back the seats and fog up those windows, baby!

2. Board games aren't b-o-r-i-n-g if you play them right. Put a naughty twist on a classic and invent something kinda kinky, like strip checkers ‑- each time one of you jumps a chip, the other person has to peel off an article of clothing. Hey, everyone wins!

3. Is your hood home to the world's largest ball of twine or perhaps a chicken with a human face? Visit weirdus.com to discover strange stuff in your area. Then go eyeball the bizarre findings with your man.

4. Peruse the phone book (or visit yellowpages.com) to score the digits of a local wine shop. Call to see if they offer free tastings (many do!) and hit 'em up.

5. Put on a ratty concert tee and ripped jeans and slum it in a dive bar. While you're jamming to Bon Jovi on the jukebox, challenge your dude to a game of darts and, okay, spring for a $1 draft.

6. Flag your dream home in the real estate section of the newspaper. Then do a fantasy walk-through with "The Mr." during an open house.

7. Rock the house on the house. Type the words free concert along with your town and state into the search engine kaxy.com to find a gratis gig in your neck of the woods. Great bands play at no cost on occasion, so there's a good chance you'll get lucky.

8. Have an urban campfire. Fire up a hibachi on the front stoop or in the backyard; grab a box of graham crackers, a couple of chocolate bars, a bag of giant marshmallows and two skewers; and roast s'mores in the great outdoors.

9. Inspired by the NCAA basketball tourney? Head to the court with your guy and play hoops. Practice free throws and three-pointers before asking him to help you perfect your layup.

10. Take an architectural tour of a nearby city. Spend a few minutes researching the buildings online and then stake 'em out. You may have passed by cool sites you never even noticed.

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
