Haven't posted on VJ for quite awhile .... so I hope I have the correct area for a non Immigration question ( ??? )

Does anyone know or have an idea where I can research information about bringing an optical sight for a rifle to Russia when we visit this summer ?

My brother-in-law would really like an Eotech optical sight and they sell them in Russia, but I can get them here for a good $ 250-$300 cheaper.

What I would worry about is arriving in Moscow and customs going beserk and throwing my old carcass in jail !

Anyone ever dealt with anything like this or have an idea where I can research it ?

I don't think you will have any problem but as you know "it's Russia" and anything can happen. I took in cameras, computers and a variety of stuff last year and as long as it meets the dollar amount that is allowed it's OK. You need to check or google the amount/value that can be brought through Russian customs. I believe if my memory serves me right it's $1000 in value maybe a little more now. There is a web site that list everything that is allowed but I can't remember the exact site. Try Russian customs entry. Last time I went through I just walked through. I think that there is something having to do with optics but I don't remember the specifics. I hoped I was some help....good luck.
