I don't think education is a bad idea. I do think we waste a lot of money on silly stuff. My only question is, he made the statement that a disporporniate number of Blacks in his district were on Welfare. I just wondred if it's true or not. All I care about is the truth

we should be spending the most on education. that's really the end of the conversation in my book. if you want to break the cycle of poverty, educate.

My solution is to make it much more uncomfortable to be on welfare than to work.

I.E. you got to do something everyday. Pick up trash. Go to school. Volunteer etc. It would be a start.

Of course i don't mean disabled people. I also don't necessarily mean physically uncomfortable, just that you got to contribute to society in some way to get your check

I also think "hunger" is a great motivator to get off one's posterior. Able bodied people receiving benefits should be getting the bare minimum to survive temporarily, with strict limits on the amount and duration of the dole. There should be MANY strings attached.

That still leaves whites ahead of blacks in welfare when looking at TANF and SNAP together.

State Rep. Gene Alday, a Republican, told The Clarion-Ledger he was against increased funding for education, in particular funding to improve literacy.

so this guy explained his unwillingness to increase funding to education for children, because adults need to suffer poverty to learn lessons. and now everyone is throwing statistics around about what minority children receive food stamps. this is why scum suckers such as alday can be career politicians.

if alday had a brain, he'd realize that the only way to stop the cycle of lazy welfare collecting individuals is to educate the next generation. then, by the time his grumpy ### is 6ft deep, society will reap the benefits and maybe we'll put a plaque on a new library or something. You do know that 38 is more than 24 don't you? ROFL - yeah, I can do that, too.

USDA says otherwise - they should know.

Almost 38% of SNAP benefits went to non-Hispanic whites while almost 24% went to non-Hispanic blacks.

As to the other point, the discussion was on utilization of welfare benefits. That includes SNAP and TANF and a number of other programs. Looking at SNAP and TANF together (the two where we dug up agency stats), we see that most of the benefits for the former go to whites - by a large margin of 14% - while the benefits for the latter are going to blacks at a slightly higher clip - just 0.1% - than to whites. Thus, taken together there are more white than black beneficiaries to these programs. That's simple math.

You were going to demonstrate that it is a myth that there are more white folk on the dole than black folk. Thus far you have come up short.
