Good day every one.

I just signed up to this site mere minutes ago.

I was hoping I could get some advice/guidance from a few of you, if you would be so kind.

So here it goes :)

We will only file after she(the USC) gets back from visiting me here in SA( arrives in 2 weeks! excited!), she gets back to the States in the later half of March.I assume we will either file end of March or start of April.

I have started gathering most of the information/documents needed in the mean time.

My questions are thus as follows:

  1. Can anyone give me the step by step for the medical in Johannesburg, costs etc( yes I have read the reviews on the embassy info page and all the guides on here, they are great btw) just would like a process regarding the medical costs, time fame regarding how long it takes to complete and whatever else is important. The medical is basically the only thing that is really throwing me off.
  2. I do still need to get the police clearance certificate, could anyone tell me how long they are valid for? don't want to get it now and when the interview comes it is not valid any more for example.

I hope that everyone has a pleasant day. Thank you in advance

1. The medical is around R3,000. You book it once you have your interview date, and it takes about 2 weeks for your medical to reach the Embassy. The medical took two days for my husband to complete. It involved a Doctors visit, X-rays, labs, and shots.

2. I was told the PCC was valid for 6 months. Someone else on this forum said they were told 1 year.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask! :)

Yes, The medical is around R3,000. So about $260. There are only 2 places you can go (Cape Town or Johannesburg) and it looks like you want to go to the Doctor in Johannesburg. We went to Cape Town. It might be more or less, but I think it should be around what we paid. You will get more information on the medical once you have your interview- phone number and address and you can call and book the medical and get an exact price.

The medical is basically the only thing that is really throwing me off. I haven't been for mine yet but I believe it takes 2 days and you should do it about 2 weeks before the interview. People have posted prices of over R3000 because that includes having vaccinations done. I can't find my old records so I am in for a huge bill as well.
  2. I do still need to get the police clearance certificate, could anyone tell me how long they are valid for? don't want to get it now and when the interview comes it is not valid any more for example. I hope they are valid for 12 months because mine was submitted to the NVC nearly 6 months ago. So I'd love to get an answer on this. Don't get it until you need it but also allow time to get it. I used an professional online company and they got it in about a month for me.

I hope that everyone has a pleasant day. Thank you in advance
