We did it all...Superjet bus, microbus, taxi. I had to get used to hustling into the back of a cab. By the end of my trip I was a pro..in and out in a flash.

Thanks moody!

Hey I found a picture of Dokki...trash and all!

Cairo_038.jpg

Did anyone take the bus or those little minivans? I actually preferred the big bus to a cab because I didn't have to fear for my life!!! Only thing is that it would get so crowded towards our stop at the end that you were lucky if you could sqeeze your way out the door to get outside.

The first time I encountered one Moh picked it up by its antenae and said, You're afraid of this? That's our pet.

 *shudders*

Moh used to sit and watch them... as long they stayed over there>>>>>>>>>>>

He decided they like to mess with human's minds for sport. I think he's right. Evil. Pure evil.

 I took those minivans, they call them "microbus." The funny thing was the person collecting the money would be told to yell out "Fadya Fadya (empty empty)" and people are practically sitting on each others laps... Then they have the music blasting on so loud, driving like crazy over speed humps..and yeah they just LOVE the horn...Everyone is always honking!!

When it comes time for the microbus to stop, the driver pauses a bit, and starts moving again..thats when I would start freaking out...Good times!! :luv:

I ABSOLUTELY love lib!! I'm addicted!! It was funny.....when we were in Egypt this past summer, my SO and I were walking downtown and eating lib as we strolled.....I was keeping `eshr el-lib (the shells) in my hand until I found a garbage can and he would just throw it on the floor in the streets ......I had to tell him to stop and that that was unacceptable to be throwing garbage in the street.....he couldn't stop laughing and he thought it was sooooo cute how I insisted that he throw el`ishr in the garbage.

My favorite egyptian singer (aside from my husband, since he was an amateur singer and songwriter while he was still at home) is Amr Diab. I know, I know, cheesiness.

I'll have to listen to him but I had to comment that my favorite singer is my husband too. Sometimes I beg for him to sing to me on the cam and although his face gets all red because he's in the middle of an internet cafe, he does it. The cafe he goes to is men only and he sits in the same spot each night and the kid who works there is used to hearing him sing and give me kisses. lol :luv:

I don't know what the heck he says to the cab drivers but I did notice that he always offered them a cigarette and if they said no then he'd give them a bunch of "lib" (those sunflower seed things that I miss)

Some may think this gross (my daughters for example), but I *never* had to shell my own lib. He would bite the shell off and , if in public feed it to me, and in private kiss me and transfer it. :luv:

lib are pumkin seeds that are roasted.

I am a professional lib eater. I can put 10 in my mouth and crack them with my teeth (no hands) and perfectly split the shells in half. My dad taught me how growing up..... I used to watch him eat lib.....that's how I learned.

My SO always sends me 2 kilo bags of lib whenever he hears of someone travelling to New Jersey. I just love it....it's a staple in my diet.

What is lib?

The microbuses in Egypt are truly an experience. I was riding one once.....and.....I kid you not.....the door of the microbus fell off in the middle of Kobry Sit-October.....I couldn't believe it and was shocked and everyone else wasn't that surprised at all..... they were just worried about the inconvenience of delay and questioned the driver how long it would take for him & the guy who collected the fares to have to drive back, pick up the door, and put it back on!!

I want you all to look out for something strange the next time you go to Egypt. One of my cousins asked me once whether or not I noticed that all the microbus drivers in Egypt have perfect eyebrows.....I told her that I had no idea.....she said that they are known to get them threaded and...........sure enough, each time I ever rode a microbus I would look to see if the driver had clean & shaped brows......and they ALWAYS did......it was sooooooooooooooooooo weird.
