Does anyone else dig the complimentary way Egyptians do business? The way they always call cab drivers and shop keepers..ya riez, ya basha, ya gameel. I think it's adorable.

My favorite egyptian singer (aside from my husband, since he was an amateur singer and songwriter while he was still at home) is Amr Diab. I know, I know, cheesiness.

You can listen to just about everything he's done back from to the 1980s on his website.

I think my favorite albumn is Tamally Malak.

They do that in Jordan too, a popular one there is M'3alem (The one who teaches)

I used to have that as a ring tone, too...on my old cell.

I really like Amr Diab's newest CD. I don't know what it's called but it came out in Nov or Dec of 2005. I have a mini video clip of Moh dancing to one of the songs

I'll have to listen to him but I had to comment that my favorite singer is my husband too. Sometimes I beg for him to sing to me on the cam and although his face gets all red because he's in the middle of an internet cafe, he does it. The cafe he goes to is men only and he sits in the same spot each night and the kid who works there is used to hearing him sing and give me kisses. lol

I don't know what the heck he says to the cab drivers but I did notice that he always offered them a cigarette and if they said no then he'd give them a bunch of "lib" (those sunflower seed things that I miss)

I used to be able to studder through prefunctory conversation, but now, I've forgetten it all. I get in an arabic learning mode every once in awhile, but alas, I suck at languages.

I know this wasn't directed to me but my answer is no. lol. I know very little and I PROMISED his sisters that I would try harder to study it and they promised me they'd try to study English better. They wanted to tell me so much when he left me alone with them and we ended up doing this freaky kind of sign language. lol. I just need to get off my butt and buy one of those kits with the cd's and all that. There's always something else I need to do though so I put it off. The fact that he speaks english doesn't help 'cause i have no incentive until the time of my next trip draws closer.

LOL, I did this with his sister too! We went to KFC together, and kinda shared words back and forth.

Start small.. and try having little sessions with your husband where all he talks is arabic.. it will help A LOT.

YES!!!

My sister smokes so I brought her a few packs thinking she'd think it was cool and all that and she told me they sell them here but I haven't seen any in the 7/11 that I go to for my Big Gulp.
