I agree with you, Jean. I stated something similar in a previous post. Hypocrisy runs rampant in Egypt. Faux prayer burns are just the tip of the iceberg.

Tamer also speculates that it has something to do with the surface you pray on - a lot of the mosques in egypt have hard cement floors. DH had a little one while he was in egypt, but here, he prays on our soft carpet with his soft prayer rug, so it's gone away.

It does relate to the surface. Shia often use a clay tablet to place their heads on when they pray, and this can cause the mark on the forehead. Praying on the ground (dirt) can also leave a temporary mark. Some people consider it a sign of worship (ala ashes on Ash wednesday).

This may get me boxed around the thread, but a lot of men "nuture" these scars/growths (yeah some can get huge and protrude) on purpose. Its an outward symbol of "the depth of their faith". I put that in quotation marks because as was explained to me, some who feel the need to wear such a symbol outwardly may have issues with the real deal inside. Not going any further then that for obvious reasons. Let's just say most who have them want them. (or at least as applies to Egypt)

Does anyone know if our ring size here is the same as ring size there? For example, if I'm a size 7 1/2 here, would I be a 7 1/2 there or do they a different system?

Different system. My ring size there was a 16 and his is 30. I wear a 7 here so you might be 17? I think he would be a size 13 here.

I heard that your ring size corresponds to your shoe size..at least mine does....is that true for the rest of you?

Not for me. I wear size 8.5 shoes and size 7 ring.

It works for me, and everyone else at home.. ..guess not for everyone

I have heard that the length of your inner forearm is the same as your foot though, most people look and say no way! my feet can't be that big! But it works for most people I know.

Wooo, I just got caught in a whirlwind of cleaning in my cubicle. My immediate office space is actually dust free! Now, all I need to do is blow through the approximately million pieces of paper that belong to a dozen different files so that the rest of my cube is clean as well. Wheh, I'm pooped.

thought i'd resurrect this thread since what I'm gonna say is Egypt related. lol.

So I'm taking this course from sunnipath.com and told the hubster all about it tonight. He was excited that I'm doing this and then I told him the title of one of the recommended books. He asked me the author and while I hunted for it he proceeded to warn me that these new people should not be listened to and that he'll get me books from the old scholars. I told him the guy was pakistani and he said, "mmmmmmmm. I will get a book for you from an Egyptian.".

lol

I'm like, "why?" and he just looked and said, "do you know where the Pakistani's have learned what they know?" "do you know where the Saudi's have learned what they know?"...............(he went on about a few more countries....) and then he said "Egypt is the one who knows all. We are where they all go to to learn. Al Ahzar is where all of the knowledge comes from so why learn from a Pakistani when you can learn from an Egyptian."

So I'm not buying the book. lol.

Do your spouses/fiances feel that all muslim knowledge is from Egypt?

If you don't mind my asking, chococat, where is your husband from? Mine's from a farming town (Kafr el Dawar)...now that was roughin' it!

My husband is from a place called Helwan. I didnt stay with him though. I come from a very strict family, both islamically and culture wise. We did our islamic marriage and everything but my father refused to let us spend some time together because he didnt get an apartment yet. We never "ya know." So we when we went out, I had to have my brother with me.

Oh wait..after our ceremony we went out to eat with my brother. My husband forgot his phone in his car, so my brother ..being the kind guy he is..offered to go get it so we can have "sometime alone." My husband started talking to me telling me I looked nice and everything, and there goes my brother. He was back in less than 2 minutes.

It was hard for me, we stayed in a place with no hot water..donkeys..roosters. My family back home is really stubborn, they felt it was rude of us to leave somewhere alone. But honestly, the experience has taught me to thank Allah for everything I've got. :innocent:

So yeah I dont know if I should call him my husband anymore, maybe he is just my fiance??

hi chococat my fiance is fro ( HELWAN ) too
