Hi all, anyone apply for an ITIN with their taxes this year? My husband filed his taxes Feb 2, 2015 , they were received in Texas at the ITIN Center Feb 3, 2015, I called to make sure that someone actually received it because I sent my actual passport, the lady on the phone told me that she couldn't look that up and that it takes two weeks to get the application in the door, I said it was delivered Feb 3, 2015 she said it might have been delivered doesn't mean it has reached our department, I was a bit confused , I thought I sent it to the ITIN department, she said you did, we probably won't look at it for at least 2-3 weeks. I have read that some have taken up to 12 weeks, while others have gotten their numbers and tax returns with in 3-4 weeks, any info would be great :)

Ok another update, check the status of my hubbys refund today and it now says processing, so I am not sure how long it takes, I am guessing they have assigned me an ITIN at this point, just haven't recieved yet. Anyone know how long this process usually takes once it is in processing mode lol.

Hi lacanadian,

I am having a similar situation like you. I applied for an ITIN for my wife. I got the ITIN on 03/13. I checked the status before that i.e 03/11 and it had a status bar the return was recieved. On 03/13 I checked and status bar is gone and it is saying the return is still being processed and a refund date will be provided when available with tax topic 152. I am wondering if you have got any update from IRS?

Thanks

This has been a nightmare for us. I filed our taxes to ITIN Operations in Austin on FEB 27th. We STILL don't have a refund 5 months later. You can read the horror story in our profile if you want the gory details.

In hindsight, we would have been MUCH better off filing a 6 month extension, waiting on the SS, and filing electronically.
