Processing Time after I751

Hey All,

How long does it take to receive the permanent greencard after filing I-751 and attending the second interview to remove the conditions in Georgia? If the temporary greencard is expiring on August 21, 2015, will I receive my permanent greencard before it expires? I am married to a US citizen. However, my relative sponsored so do we need to submit any tax documents of my relatives again while submitting the documents for my second interview?

Please assist. Thank you.

Your I-751 receipt letter will extend your current 2-year green card for another year. You can use the expired 2-year green card plus the extension letter to work and travel while you wait for the 10-year green card. You probably won't receive the 10-year green card before the 2-year green card expires, but that's OK because you will have the extension letter in the meantime.

The I-751 application can take up to a year. Very few are longer. The current waiting period for both CSC and VSC is around 6 months.

The vast majority of I-751 applicants are not interviewed. You don't have to submit tax documents from your co-sponsor. You should submit jointly filed tax returns (transcripts) for you and your spouse, along with the rest of your supporting documents. These are submitted with the I-751 application. You should check the I-751 instructions on the USCIS website to see what you should submit with your application.

Hi Lainie,

So if the waiting period is 6 months, does it still always take more than 6 months? I am eligible to apply for my US citizenship exactly one year after I apply for I-751. I am just confused because if my 10 yr greencard will take about a year, then it will also be time for me to apply for my US citizenship. Thank you for your response.

Apply for your greencard within 90 days of its expiry date. Your residence status will be extended for a year. If your 10 year greencard isn't approved in a year, you can still apply for your citizenship. Once you apply for citizenship, USCIS will be forced to make a decision on your green card. it's useless to worry about all that right now though. Just apply for your permanent green card before the deadline otherwise you will be out of status.
