CAIRO (Reuters) - Egyptian jets bombed Islamic State targets in Libya on Monday, a day after the group there released a video showing the beheading of 21 Egyptian Christians, drawing Cairo directly into the conflict across its border.

Egypt said the dawn strike hit militant camps, training sites and weapons storage areas in neighbouring Libya, where civil conflict has plunged the country into near anarchy and created havens for armed factions.

Libya's air force also participated in Monday's attack on Derna -- an eastern coastal city seen as a base for Islamic State fighters in the oil-rich nation.

"There are casualties among individuals, ammunition and the (Islamic State) communication centres," Libyan air force commander Saqer al-Joroushi told Egyptian state television, adding that between 40 to 50 militants were killed.

It was not possible to confirm those numbers.

Cool. More Muslim governments joining in the fight. Maybe we can bow out before Obama and Congress screw the pooch.

Obama is letting the afftected countries take part and join in the effort. This is how you build a coalition. One country at a time, with a common goal.

Only thing Obama is doing at the moment is push the leash while the world looks for a leader that wants to lead from the front.

I don't think the American public supports the US getting involved in antoher war in the ME. If there was ever a time for America to stand by and let other interested parties step upi to the plate, the time is now. That's how you build a coalition.

What a load of hooey! The only thing that excuse for human flesh ever did was read a teleprompter and enjoy the sound of his own voice. This MESS is happening because he's completely incompetent and delusional. To suggest he planned it, is equally delusional.

I don't think he is saving the world. He already managed to get Jordan and Egypt to join the campaign against ISIS, while providing aerial support in the region. I think he is saving America form going it alone in another war in the ME and that's good for me.

So, by his absence, Obama is saving the world. I see.

Dude, the man is no longer president. Let it go.

So, you take a whole lotta islamic countries who always hated the West, and dismantle their form of government, and remove their leaders, and try to force capitalism and democracy down their throats like an 0bozoCare pill? Then, remove all the troops from the region and tell the islamic countries to clean it up and try to deal with all the mean islamic head cutter offers and give them jobs instead of knives and guns.

Yeah. That oughta work out real good.

I agree with you the most Americans are pissed and I believe we all should love to see some of these terrorists blown up to smithereens. However this was precisely the state of mind of most of us during the Iraq war and most recently, it was the very state of mind that had us almost going into Syria to support the rebels, many of whom are at the very core of ISIS.

I'm not saying we should take a Chamberlain-like approach to the fight with ISIS but I think that we need to be vey careful in choosing to whom we're gong to extend assistance, how, where and when.

It's beyond clear now that ISIS will not stop short of killing anyone - regardless of faith or nationality - to further their cause, but we need to make sure that whatever action we take is made in concert with other countries in the region lest we come across once again as the big imperialist evil from the West. ISIS has managed to help us form a real coalition of nations that are willing to lend more than their moral and verbal support to the cause. We have not seen support like this since the Gulf War and that bodes well for a cause that is no longer exclusively American.
