Is it only one trip? I am asking this as I applied in my married name for my ssn before AOS, finally received my card but it says on the card not authorised to work, so .... I am wondering if I need to change that, as it does not tally with my EAD card and might confuse employers.

The restriction "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" will remain on your SSN card until you have the green card. So yes that is perfectly normal if you just have your EAD card. Your EAD card is your DHS authorization to work.

We'll see how things work for us. We'll be getting my fiancée's SSN after marriage. She'll enter the country on Feb 23 in Hawaii, we'll spend about a week there before traveling home to Dallas then we'll be in Orlando for our wedding on Mar 11. We'll file for the SSN after we return to Dallas the following week along with filing for AOS. I'll try to remember to post our experience at the SS office here.

Just a quick update on our experience at the SS office. We went to the Dallas North Office, got our number and waited about 1 hour and 15 minutes till the number was called. We went to the window I told the guy we needed to get her SS card and handed him the completed application (in married name), I-94 printout, marriage certificate, and her passport. No questions or comments, 10 minutes later he hands us the receipt and said it should be about 2 weeks till we get the card in the mail.

One further follow-up. We received my wife's SSC yesterday, exactly 1 week after our visit to the local office. Everything on the card was correct so no further visits to the SSA until we get her green card and go in to have the DHS stuff removed.
