name change and SSN

So, when I went back to SSN after wedding to do the name change, the officer told me I was doing the right procedure, BUT the system hadnt been updated since my first SSN. He said he would have to file a request manually (ie through the post) and it would take 4-6 weeks. He did return my card to me.

The letter came today saying they cant do it as they do not have proof of my status. Im assuming that this is because when they got around to the application the officer sent in , it was past the I-94 date, although it wasnt when I went in. The letter states that if I feel there has been an error and should be issued a new card to call them.

My question, since I have applied for AOS now, should I just wait ? (since I'll only be going back there once AGAIN to get the final SSN.) When my EAD comes through Ill still have the card in my Maiden name. Would this matter?

Wait until you have either an EAD or Green Card to change the name on the SSN card. Better yet wait untill you have the green card, SSA only will issue a set number of cards in a person's lifetime, so why waste a card only to have it changed again after getting Green-Card.

We had to wait until we received something official from USCIS which ended up being Claudeth's EAD. It took about six weeks after filing to get the new card. Good luck
