Michael Bloomberg suggests disarming minorities to ‘keep them alive’

Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg reportedly argued Friday that guns need to be kept out of the hands of minorities in order to keep them alive.

While speaking at the Aspen Institute, Mr. Bloomberg, 72, said 95 percent of murders fall into a specific category: a male minority between the ages of 15 and 25, The Aspen Times reported.

Cities need to get guns out of this group’s hands and keep them alive, the former three-term mayor said, according to The Times.

“These kids think they’re going to get killed anyway because all their friends are getting killed,” said Mr. Bloomberg, who funds the gun-control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety. “They just don’t have any long-term focus or anything. It’s a joke to have a gun. It’s a joke to pull a trigger.”

I wish to go on the record .. I support the 2nd and support legal gun ownership by minorities . If they can go fight a war at 18 there is no reason to outlaw that same person from owning a gun until he gets past the age of 25 .

Maybe Mr. Bloomberg should shut up about gun ownership and consider that these young people clearly have PTSD. Rather than taking their guns, maybe he should campaign to get psychology services available in the schools and available freely to anyone in NYC who needs them.

Seriously. I read a study in the past couple years that suggested that a majority of high school students in so-called 'inner-city' schools have PTSD because of the levels of violence they are exposed to every day.

It is funny he talks of unarming minorities, what about unarming the whole U.S.? The highest gun violence is in places like Montana where suicide by gun is extremely high (non-black state). Is it really only minorities that have a problem with guns?

Why jump to that conclusion when early intervention into PTSD has greater success and not everyone with PTSD needs disability pensions--many people make excellent recoveries with good prognosis for restored function.
